Commenting on the company’s move into new and competitive market sectors, Simon Beesley, European product manager, states: "The UWP Series represents a big step forward as it introduces Sony wireless options to customers we haven’t catered to before. Although specified for a cost conscious market, UWP clearly reflects the inherent quality of Sony wireless systems, based on years of professional experience."
Consisting of five core elements - a lavalier microphone and bodypack transmitter, a wireless handheld microphone, a portable tuner, a half-rack-size tuner and a tuner module - the UWP Series wireless microphone system is available in six ‘turnkey’ packages, each containing a microphone, transmitter and tuner. The systems are capable of being combined for up to 16 channel simultaneous operation, using intermodulation-free pre-set frequency groups.
In addition to providing a cost-effective, shoe-mountable portable tuner compatible with Sony camcorders, the Sony UWP Series shares three advanced features in common with many of Sony’s top-end wireless audio products. Stable transmission and reception is ensured by the crystal-controlled UHF PLL (Phase Locked Loop) Synthesized System. The Space Diversity Reception System delivers assured signal continuity through the use of dual-antenna inputs and reception circuits, enabling the units to automatically switch to the strongest signal. Tone squelch circuitry, using a 32kHz pilot tone transmission in parallel with the audio signal, reduces unwanted output and interference and removes on/off switching noise.
