UK - A new table dancing bar in Rotherham has been fitted out with Wharfedale loudspeakers. Eight Programme 60s were supplied to Blue Minx owner Tim Naylor by Doncaster dealers Electromusic. Naylor has a long relationship with the retailer through his other venues in the town, Mazeppa Bar and Millennium Bar.

When he allocated the £200,000 necessary to refit the former Traveller's Rest, Naylor confessed he had his eyes fixed on another speaker brand. That was until he experienced a demo of the Programme 60s. "After listening to them, I realized they offered outstanding reproduction." UK - Allen & Heath recently hosted an awards ceremony at London's Globe Theatre, with over 60 guests from its network of UK dealers and overseas distributors. Held during PLASA, the purpose of the evening was to recognize individual achievements behind Allen & Heath's most successful year to date.

In the UK, Musicland was awarded 'Best Retailer of the Year', Batmink was presented with the 'Best Reseller of the Year' award, and Sapphires Sound & Light was decorated with 'Best DJ Retailer of the Year'. International distributors were also acknowledged, with Pro Audio Marketing in Germany, PT Santika Multi Jaya in Indonesia and Distribuidora Gonher S.A. de C.V. in Mexico, receiving awards for 'Most Improved Territory'. UK - The first order for Martin Audio's new W8LM Line Array was confirmed during this month's PLASA Show - and a major order it was too. Martin Audio confirmed that they had sold a 64-enclosure Synco W8LM system to Synco Europe, for distribution among the Synco Network partners in Europe. Ampco Pro Rent in Holland will be one of the first network partners to use the new system on its theatre projects. Synco Europe also purchased all necessary flying hardware, along with 16 Synco MA2.8S amplifiers.

Spain - D.A.S. Audio has expanded the new Dynamics series with the addition of the DS-108 passive systems. The Dynamics series provides users with loudspeaker systems that are easy to carry, simple to set up and possess the sound quality that characterize all D.A.S. sound products.

The DS-108 is a versatile two-way system designed to provide full-range reproduction. Low frequency reproduction is handled by a high efficiency 8" loudspeaker with 1.5" voice coil. High frequencies are reproduced by the M-3 compression driver - a 1" exit driver incorporating a 2" titanium diaphragm and EFW (edge-wound-flat-wire) voice coil. UK - With the summer festivals fixed in their schedule, Coldplay did not want to take any risks with the equipment they might encounter, so - they decided to take their own! XTA signal processing was in command of the extensive front of house control system, supplied by Tourtech, that accompanied Coldplay's UK and European tour, and the round of summer festivals that followed it - culminating in their double-headlining appearances at the V Festivals 2003 at Chelmsford and Weston Park, Stafford.

For the tour, four XTA GEQ600 equalizers provided system EQ for the complex main, bleacher and underhung arrays of V-Dosc and DV-Dosc PA. Six XTA DP226 units handled the PA processing for the left/right system and ground stacks, with another time-aligning the subs.

Recent projects include Dunes nightclub in Kensington on the site of the old Po Na Na venue, which has been taken over by an independent operator and completely refurbished. Sound Division specified and installed a Crown-powered JBL sound system, a sophisticated DJ set-up and a lighting rig based on a selected range of Abstract VRX scanners, positioned over the dancefloor.

Denmark - Newly available from DPA Microphones is the MPS6001 miniature power supply, designed to work with the entire range of DPA miniature microphones in situations where phantom power is not available. The 1-channel battery-operated MPS6001 also functions as a 48V phantom power adapter as the battery is bypassed when supplied with phantom power.

Ireland - The Irish town of Naas, located just 15 miles outside of Dublin, has recently become the setting for a modern dance hall revolution with the opening of Time, a night-club with a difference. Times' commercial director and architect, Sean Condon says: "Time is as an attempt to bridge generations, a modern theatre offering high energy entertainment from ballet to high-wire dare devil performances, music from across the world, DJs, live bands and dancers!"

USA - This year's AES show in New York (10-13 October) will mark the 25th anniversary of EAW in the professional audio industry. Since its founding in 1978, when EAW first appeared at the 61st AES Convention, the company has introduced hundreds of successful loudspeaker products and has grown to become one of the most influential and respected manufacturers of professional audio products in the world.

Spektrix, weighing in at just 32kg, is a rigid, trapezoidal, 11-ply Baltic birch compact cabinet, loaded with a proprietary Adamson 1.4" neodymium HF compression driver, mounted on an Adamson patented wave shaping drive module. The system also delivers greatly increased efficiency in the 100-200Hz frequency range and low frequency extension via two Adamson Neodymium 8" kevlar drivers. These respectively produce rich, mid-bass via the Spektrix Band Pass Network and direct radiated LF - thus creating a bi-amped acoustic 3-way cabinet. UK - Wharfedale Programme 30D loudspeakers can be found at the heart of the Bostin' Local programme of pub refurbishments and developments by the award-winning Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries.

tsg, the Sheffield-based media programming and systems company has been appointed by W&DB to implement standardized audio and video systems in the majority of the pubs in the programme. Some 60 venues have been converted to the Bostin' Local format to date, with about 40 more earmarked in this W&DB financial year. The roll-out is expected to include about 200 pubs by the end of 2004 - an investment of over £20m.

UK / Jamaica - The phrase 'coals to Newcastle' springs to mind with the news that Wembley Loudspeaker has sold eight of their B-Line 28-20 sub-bass cabinets to a new reggae club opening in Kingston, Jamaica. The boxes are being shipped this October ready for the club's opening.

The club owners first heard Wembley's B-Line 28-20 cabinets at this year's Notting Hill Carnival in London. They subsequently came to the PLASA exhibition in London in September, where they agreed the order with Wembley Loudspeaker's managing director, Paul MacCallum.

UK - Soundcraft recently supported a unique showcase event at The Bedford in Balham, London, when Scorpions guitar legend Uli Jon Roth performed his new album Metamorphosis of Vivaldi's Four Seasons in the venue's Shakespearean Globe Theatre.

Appearing before an invited audience of 140 - with his 11-piece Sky Orchestra looking like they had migrated from the cast of a BBC costume drama - Roth was filmed for a forthcoming DVD to support the album. It also provided a break from the normal '@coustix' Wednesday night talent sessions run by promoter Tony Moore (of Kashmir Klub fame).

UK - Bosch Security Systems has announced that it is the first company in the world to achieve full TÜV approval for its digital voice alarm systems. Instead of the normal self-certification, Bosch chose to submit its Praesideo range of public address and emergency voice alarm systems to the independent and internationally-recognized TÜV Product Service GmbH testing authority in Germany.

As a result, Bosch's all-digital Praesideo is the first PA/VA system to be independently TÜV tested to EN/IEC60849 certification for sound systems for emergency purposes.
