Rob Fricker from Adam Hall said the company had been busy completing its audio LD-ProSeries. Since PLASA 2003 it has been flat out supplying Series 1 products. Series 2 loudspeakers operate in bi-amp mode with integrated active crossover - and cost the same as Series 1.

A new lightweight switch mode power amp, the E45 comes from MC² Audio, and delivers 2,250W into 4 ohms per channel, yet weighs just 11kg. Joining the E15 and E25 (750W and 1250W per channel respectively) the E45 sports a power reduction unit on the rear panel, allowing limiting down in 2dB increments to match power to its sister amps.

Describing itself as making "the Rolls Royce of radio microphones and headphones", Audio Ltd was backing that claim by displaying a set of cans in a cherry wood box costing £1950! Also on show was its HX2040 radio mic system for studio and theatre, plus a range of quality mic capsules.

A worldwide launch for the InnovaSON Sy48 mix console, the main features of this new digital desk are more inputs than its predecessor the Sy40 (now up to 64), but in the same chassis. The desk also features more busses (32), more in/outs, and greatly increased DSP processing power, giving 64 input patch (48 mic/line+ 16 line), phantom and phase inversion, low cut 20-500Hz sliding frequencies, noise gate and comp/limiter (both five parameters), four-band EQ with notch filters, and up to 100msec delay on inputs.

SSE now does a brisk trade in sales, not least its touring equipment packaging division: SSE also sells Nexo, and was promoting the new dedicated EtherSound network card for Nexo systems. It also showed the ProSight - an inclinometer system which offers fast and easy installation of speaker systems, particularly line array variants - and drew praise from the judges in the Awards for Innovation.

'A PA in an attaché case' is probably the best way to describe the Mission Pro Tecsonic portable microphone, amplifier and flat panel loudspeaker system. The new SM6A active nearfield monitors were also being demoed, as well as the Visound 'sound in a mirror' concept product.

Another new radio mic system, the ATW 1600 is one of three introductions from Audio-Technica. A UHF system with 16 switchable frequencies, this system requires the manual selection of handheld mic channel, neatly hidden in a tamper-proof section of the mic handle. A new capsule and simple two-colour LED battery power indicators complete this MI and semi-pro targeted unit. The entry-level Midnight Blues range includes two vocal and two instrument mics. All feature a MagnaLock soft on/off switch. In the Pro series, the 242 has been re-vamped, as have the 41 and 61, with improvements to frequency response and dynamic range.

Computer music specialist Rolec - now a fully owned subsidiary of Image Sound - is also getting into video. PLASA featured two new Rolec video hard drive players, the VHD2 and the VHD3. Facilities include on-screen texting and advertising scheduling. Rolec claims its machines are still up to a third more cost-effective than other comparables.

Picking up on the increasing convergence between lighting and visual mediums and the need for integrated control, Numark launched its DVD Vision Mixer and AV DJ Mixer. The AVM01 offers audio and visual mixing via the one interface including crossfaders for both types on inputs. It has four video channels for composites and two for S-video. Numark had another first with its HDCD1 MP3/twin CD player, complete with 80Gb hard drive, enough to store 40,000 3.5 minute MP3 clips.

As a main dealer for Sony, pride of place was given to the UWP wireless mic system on the Total Audio Solutions stand; it offers six system packages, including the flagship modular half-unit rackmount system which can contain up to six UWP tuner modules, with 192 selectable frequencies. Main components are lavalier mic and body pack, a uni-directional handheld mic with built-in antenna, and the tuner module. It's aimed at corporate events, lecture, TV and broadcast applications.

5 Star Systems from Holland featured products from a new intelligent lighting manufacturer in Budapest, including a 250W wash fixture. Also showing was a prototype 38-LED moving light, using 3W blue and green LEDs and 1W reds.

Taiwanese company Acme Effects launched the iSoloution range of lighting products in association with UK partner Pro Light Concepts. With no Western backing, the company has worked hard to ensure its products are distributed worldwide.

Alongside its ranges of control options, coloured fluorescent tube specialists Anytronics were showing new additions to the outstation options for its Anylight systems, the new DP804 dimming pack and its enhanced range of T5 fluorescent fixtures.

Swedish company Beacon AB was showing its comprehensive gobo catalogue with over 350 new gobo designs. Still attracting strong interest was its Blackline range of gobos launched at PL

American Audio, the sound side of American DJ, featured its new Q Series mixers, now available in black; complete with new PCB design, new mic inputs, stream flow LEDs and aux inputs. The machine's knobs have been upgraded to be more tactile and easier to handle, and all mixer LEDs now sit inside their relevant buttons. On the rear is a limiter for mobile DJs, to prevent speaker damage.

China - HK Audio's Install Sound range of loudspeakers have found an unusual application at a multi-purpose venue which has been built by the Huadian Corporation, one of China's five largest energy suppliers, with assets of around 900 billion RMB. The venue is situated at the Huadian Corporation-owned Zou County fossil fuel power plant in Shandong province, one of China's largest power plants. HK Audio's Chinese distributor, Smart Target Holdings, supplied the installation system to contractor Broadtech from Shandong province, which was selected to design and install an audio system into the venue.

Pioneer launched its DVJ-X1, based on CDDJ technology, but also allowing the DJ to manipulate visuals in the same way as an audio source. Pioneer's new EFX 500R was announced at the show, a special issue colour edition of the EFX unit for manipulating sounds, demonstrated by James Zabiela.

There were three lines of new Chevin Research products. The ROD series (at prototype stage), has three active loudspeaker modules which should find homes in an array of applications. The Line 250 and 500 amplifiers are for 100/70V line applications, while the company's flagship A Series stretches to 12 models, seven into a minimum four ohm load and five into two ohms.

Autograph Sales showed Aviom's new AN-16/I-M mic input module. The AN-16/I-M is a rack mounted mic and line level input device that contains 16 high-quality mic preamps with 24-bit A-to-D converters. It can be used as part of a digital snake, along with all existing products in the Distributed Audio Network line, including the A-16ii personal mixer and Aviom16/o-Y1 Yamaha output card.

Another company launching a new range of faders was Seltron Components, which developed the X Fade crossfader with torque control in conjunction with DJ company Eclectic Breaks. The new product is designed specifically for DJ use and was being put through its paces on the EB stand.

Acustica - an installation range of speakers from RCF, covers compact and full size cabinets, mostly two-way. The portable PA system Move 100 is, as the name suggests, a self-contained 100W nominal PA set-up. Master controller includes three inputs, wired and wireless mic, plus programme input; voice EQ (tone control) and master volume.

Several new pieces of audio equipment from Yamaha: on the MI front, the MG8/2 FX is an analogue mixing desk with built-in effects, particularly multiple reverbs and flange; also available in 12-channel version.

The PC-N series is an existing range of power amps for the professional user. Two new models have been added: PC9500N is 925W per channel, and the PC4800N offers 475W each side. Main characteristics are high linear power, and low distortion, EEEngine technology for increased efficiency, optional networking compatibility with ACU/NHB, 10-point LED metering and many more - all in a 2U case with tamper-proof cover plate.

Pride of place for Yamaha, however, went to the PM5D. Launched only five months ago, the desk is already gaining widespread acceptance. The company is now drawing attention to increased connectivity available on all the digital desks in its fleet via Cobranet, An

Gemini had approximately 45 new products on the booth, having revamped its entire product range. Of note was the UX range of wireless mics, and the GX range of powered speakers, including a highly portable 10" enclosure.

MEDC makes a wide variety of speakers - the Next Two brand - for the retail, commercial, transport and leisure industries. New products include the WS wall cabinet, an enclosure available in coaxial and duel cone versions. Designed for specification by architects and installers, it comes in two parts - a 'back box' for first fix, followed by the cosmetic front plate once the messy work is completed.

Danish audio manufacturer MTI showed its new 8 x 1000W/per channel power amp - the MP 82000. All that in a 3U rack, thanks to digital electronics and switch mode PSU. With built-in speaker control via laptop (up to 16 amps daisy-chained on RS485) each amp has a number of customer programmable presets, including speaker type, load etc. Full matrixing, any in to any out, six-band parametric, filters, look ahead limiting, and crossover - it's all there. Peak limit system in the analogue domain through laser trimmed VCA, gives zero compression, "keeping volume flat, any kind of distortion only comes through as even harmonics," the company said.

Mach, the speaker division of Martin Professional is now firmly focussed on the install market: a complete new range designated 'C' addresses every size and configuration you'd want. Particular attention has been paid to mounting and ease of install. 13 new cabinets were on display; another seven will be with us by the end of the year.

KV2 Audio was celebrating its second year of trading. Now with a total of 30 distributors, the company is experiencing significant growth in the Asian and Australasian markets. The company also announced that it's teaming up with Allen & Heath to target the US market. This year, KV2 launched its high tech EX12 high-output active full-range speaker. Marcelo Vercelli, KV2 president noted: "Design of the EX12 took over two years as our goal was to create a product that would re-define the 12" two-way product category."
