USA - For the fifth time in as many years, Texas-based LD Systems travelled to Las Vegas in December for the 49th annual Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR), a 10-day event many consider the Super Bowl of rodeo. LD has partnered with the WNFR since 2004 as the event's exclusive light and stage producer. 2007 marked the first year that LD also supplied sound reinforcement for the event.

Last year, LD used an Electro-Voice XLC rig to provide coverage at the 18,500-seat Thomas and Mack Centre on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas. This year the WNFR returned to the Thomas and Mack Centre, and so did LD Systems' XLC rig.

France - The town of Asnières sur Seine just outside Paris has decided upon a new Innovason Sy80 digital mixing console to complete its AV inventory.

Thierry Plenier, who runs the AV department with department head William Baruch, comments: "I was fascinated by the Muxipaire (digital snake) when it first came out, and when we bought our first digital console in 2002, if I'd had the budget, I'd have bought a Compact Live. As it was, we went for another solution, which has served us well until now, but we are reaching the ceiling of its limitations in terms of mix capacity, and our analogue console just doesn't offer us the flexibility we need to handle monitors."

Regarding the Sy80, Plenier notes: "From a technical point of view, first and foremost, the sound quality is excellent. Secondly, to our huge delight, you don't have to configure your patch to the conso

UK - When Prodigy headlined the second stage at last summer's V Festivals in Chelmsford and Stafford, they had a surprise for their fans. Thanks to a collaboration between the band's FOH engineer, Jon Burton, and Martin Audio's Research & Development director, Jason Baird, the band with arguably the most thunderous bass in the world were about to push the sub-frequencies even further.

Jon Burton explained the rationale behind his involvement in the development of Martin Audio's new passive 21" sub prototype. "We knew a year ahead of the event that Prodigy were likely to be headlining the second stage - but sound wise there is always an issue because of the strict noise levels at both the festival sites.

"We wanted to maximise the impact of the low end, but in a directional way to avoid noise propagation across the entire site. We always require more than the nor

UK - Eton College has installed Vieta's So Cubes in its 15th century College Hall. Specified by Scanaudio for use at the school's dinner functions, a fully portable six-unit system takes less than five minutes to set up.

With extensive oak wall-panelling reaching up the walls of this medieval banqueting hall, "attaching loudspeakers or cables to the fabric of the building was an absolute no-no," explains Scanaudio's William Couchman. "The beauty of the Vieta So Cube solution is that we didn't have to make any physical changes to the Hall's historic interior.

"All the control and processing equipment is built into a 8U mixer rack which is wheeled out for the functions. And it takes minutes for a member of staff to put the wireless So Cubes onto the dining tables. "That's a PA system for up to 130 people set up and ready to go in under 5 minutes."

Three staggered stereo pairs of legacy MSL-2A loudspeakers in either direction provided distributed delay for each stage. A Galileo loudspeaker management system using two Galileo 616 processor

UAE - Qatar's Al-Khor and Al-Wakrah football stadiums have recently installed Meyer Sound Milo line array loudspeakers and the SB-2 parabolic wide-range sound beams, with the entire project handled by AV-Tech of Doha.

The two stadiums are located about 55km apart on opposite sides of Doha, the capital of Qatar. When AV-Tech was contracted to install jumbo video screens and accompanying sound systems at both venues, the goal was to deliver highly intelligible speech and wide-bandwidth music to all 20,000 seats from one screen-side tower. It was an ambitious goal, as each point-source system would have to cover all of the seats at the stadium.

"Our design specification called for 105 dB SPL throughout, the same as for similar stadium systems we had done previously," says Hadi Arzouni, general manager of AV-Tech. "But here, because users wanted to have music during
