Manchester-based British Cycling tasked Lee Valley Regional Park Authority with finding a local contractor able to deliver a quality service and solutions to the challenges that come with working at a different venue.

Naomi Chant, events manager at Lee Valley RPA, comments, "We will be using Midas for other winter activities and had no hesitation in recommending the company to British Cycling. Olympic gold medallist, Laura Trott, said, "Lee Valley VeloPark is suc

USA - Chicago-based sound engineer Aaron Patkin went on the road mixing monitors for Chance The Rapper, one of hip-hop's fastest-rising young stars, in early 2013. Since then, the artist has progressed from Internet sensation to main-stage attraction, as evidenced by his acclaimed performance as a final-night headliner at this summer's Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.

Over that time, Chance (full name Chancelor Bennett) has gone from being a voice-and-DJ act to having a full live touring band. However, one thing has remained constant: using Sensaphonics 2MAX earphones for monitoring. Patkin especially appreciates how the full isolation and comfort of their soft silicone earpieces made the transition to in-ears easy.

"When the in-ears arrived, it was my job to help them make the transition - just three days before the tour," Patkin recalls. "Chance had never wor

Everyman A Winner - Liverpool's rebuilt Everyman Theatre has won the Riba Stirling Prize for best new building of the year. The venue beat five other buildings to win the honour - the Royal Institute of British Architects' highest accolade. Riba president Stephen Hodder called the Everyman an "exceptional new building". He added, "It is a ground-breaking example of how to build a daring bold and highly sustainable large public building in a historic city centre.

The theatre - famed for launching the careers of actors including Bill Nighy, Julie Walters and Pete Postlethwaite - first opened in 1964 in the shell of a 19th Century chapel on one of Liverpool's main streets. However, over the years it fell into a state of disrepair and architects Haworth Tompkins were tasked with designing a new theatre as part of a nine-year £27m rebuilding project, retaining i

Greenland - Studiomaster supplied a "berg suitable" PA for the world's first ever gig on a floating iceberg, when UK metal band, The Defiled, performed in sub-zero temperatures atop of the floating berg for the Jägermeister Ice Cold Gig.

Jägermeister approached Studiomaster to supply a PA tough enough to perform in Arctic conditions following Carlsbro / Studiomaster's sponsorship of this year's Bloodstock festival, during which the company supplied emergency kit to The Jägermeister Stage.

"It was a brief we could confidently commit to, given the robust build quality of Studiomaster product," says assistant general manager Patrick Almond. "In fact it presented a perfect opportunity to prove the near-military grade construction of the new Horizon powered mixer. The very look of the all-British design says how tough it is - and then there's 1000 watts

USA - When the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Newsies flies off the rack to begin its North American tour this month, sound designer Ken Travis relies on Masque Sound to deliver a dynamic custom audio equipment package for the smash hit.

The musical features a score by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein and is produced by Disney Theatrical Productions.

UK - Lightning struck all summer at London's Roundhouse this year, as a special sound and lighting installation, Arboreal Lightning, formed the centrepiece of the venue's Summer Sessions. K-array loudspeakers helped transform the former locomotive shed into an interactive art space.

Commissioned by Imogen Heap as the centrepiece for her Reverb mini-festival in August, Arboreal Lightning was a large-scale interactive installation, designed by Alex Haw at his atmos studio, which transformed sound and gesture into a fully immersive environment. Built at the side of the Roundhouse stage, the tree's LED strip 'branches' spread throughout the venue's structure, reacting to the sounds produced by both performers and audiences.

UK - Billed as one of the finest events and conference venues in central London, The Mermaid Conference & Events Centre in Blackfriars has a reputation to retain.

When doubts were raised about the performance limitations of an existing sound system in the main auditorium, The Mermaid's technical manager, Andy Munro, approached Bose to find out what could be done to upgrade to a state of the art system. Fortunately, Bose had only recently introduced a new range of loudspeakers which bore all the hallmarks of being perfect for the venue.

The venue is a 600 capacity raked seating theatre, and the brief was for a system that could be used for vocal reinforcement for presentations and PA announcements, as well as for recorded music and live music enhancement. The venue is used regularly by the BBC for its Friday night concerts, as well as by ChristChurch London, which holds two wee

USA - To launch their much-anticipated new album Ghost Stories, Coldplay played a pair of intimate live shows in California, which were filmed and broadcast on network TV stations around the world. The high profile event marked the debut of a second DiGiCo SD7 mixing console on the band's live setup.

Coldplay Front of House engineer Dan Green adopted the SD7 in 2011, for the band's Viva la Vida tour. Its success persuaded monitor engineer Chris Wood to join him, the launch of Ghost Stories proving the appropriate launchpad for a significantly enhanced audio system.

"Dan originally switched to the SD7 because of its sound, versatility, feel and compatibility with Waves plugins," says the band's touring systems engineer Tony Smith. "After that tour, Chris felt that the timing was right to join Dan in using an SD7 as well. With the band in the studio,

Spain - Bautista Martí Italia is a newly opened lounge located in Antic Regne, one of the most central and busiest avenue in Valencia, between the districts of Canovas and Ruzafa.

Taking into account the importance that the design and the atmosphere of the lounge has for this particular customer, the installer,Sistemas 2, relied on WORK Pro's Neo Series of loudspeakers for the audio systems. The installer chose the white version because it integrated perfectly with the rest of the interior design and decoration.

The Neo Series comprises five different passive loudspeakers, two two-way active loudspeakers and an active subwoofer and mixes sound quality with a compact design, which makes it much easier to blend them with the architectural requirements of different projects. Technically, these loudspeakers are suitable for low impedance installation as well as 100V line installa

USA - Richwoods Christian Church was founded in the late 1990s by pastor Jim Powell in Peoria, Illinois. Its congregation was initially small, a scant 65 people, but those congregants were motivated to grow the church. They succeeded, and today Richwoods Christian Church brings 1,400 people together every weekend, spread across four services at two locations.

The larger location built its current sanctuary in a former high-end furniture store, where, despite low ceiling height, local A/V integration firm Advanced Audio and Lighting gave the church a highly-intelligible and musical sound reinforcement system based on Danley Sound Labs SH-50 full-range loudspeakers and TH-115 subwoofers. Not wanting to compromise at the satellite location, Richwoods Christian Church asked for Danley again. There, a collapsible system of self-powered Danley SH-96 loudspeakers and TH-118 subwoofers

USA - Debuting on iTunes Classical at #1 even before its official release and raising in the ranks on the Billboard Classical charts, The Chopin Variations by celebrated pianist and composer Chad Lawson, violinist Judy Kang and cellist Rubin Kodheli, takes the familiar sounds of Chopin and recasts each composition in a new light.

To accomplish this, Lawson used his Steinway piano to create a slightly muted, ethereal sound, captured entirely by DPA microphones. The positioning of d:dicate 4011A Cardioid Stereo Kit was critical to translate the desired mood into Lawson's latest recording.

Lawson wanted a mic solution that would illustrate the internal workings of his Steinway for his latest album, which was recorded in his home studio using the d:dicate 4011A Cardioid Stereo Kit. Introduced to him by an engineer during his previous record, Lawson now relies on the mics fo
