However, the centre was opened 15 years ago and although their sound system, supplied by Jands Contracting, way back when, and incorporating JBL speakers, had performed magnificently over this time it was starting to show its age and needed to be updated to meet current technologies.
Rod McKinnon, from Jands Sales followed up an inquiry, and involved Lee Conlon, managing director of Revolver Audio, to implement, supply and install a renewed solution in terms of their audio system.
"The school was happy with the performance that their old JBL system had delivered and so they were delighted to have an updated version," he said. "They now have the latest in JBL speakers: two JBL AM5212/95, two JBL AC28/95 and two JBL AC18/26 in various positions around the room. They also have higher powered amplifiers in the form of two Crown Xti2000 and two Crown Xti1000 units."
The control booth features a Soundcraft LX7-16 mixing console, a Lexicon I•ONIX FW810S 8-in, 10-out FireWireT audio interface, two JBL LSR2328 booth monitors, a dbx 2231Graphic Equalizer/Limiter and a dbx 1261m ZonePRO 12x6 Digital Zone Processor.
"We set them up with a dbx ZonePro so they can have some automation, EQ and protection on the system," commented Conlon. "For wireless microphones they have a couple of Shure ULXS4 SM58 plus a Shure MX412 Microflex Standard Gooseneck microphone for the lectern.
"The new audio system has been received really well. In fact when they had their first assembly with the new system the complaint we got was that the system was too loud! I thought that was a good thing as it meant we had plenty of headroom for the future."
