The V1600HD from Roland.
UK - Subfrantic, supplier of high-end sound, lighting, staging and video equipment to the events industry, recently purchased the Roland V-1600HD Multi format live video switcher in a move that will see them bring all of their video services in house. Until recently, video services had been subcontracted, but company owner Steve Davies was keen to find a way to bring video directly under his control so that he could guarantee the quality of the work matched that of the sound and lighting for which they had built up such a good reputation.

The product that they were looking for had to be suitable for use in a number of applications from festivals and tours, to house of worship and corporate events - and have the features to produce high quality results whilst coping with different video input formats. The V-1600HD ticked all of the boxes and after seeing the product at BVE and having a demo, Steve says he knew it was right for the job.

The V-1600HD Live Video Switcher is ideal for any live event or installation that requires a high channel count and the ability to accept a variety of video input formats 'out of the box'. The 'all in one' design of the V-1600HD with built in preview monitors, frame synchronizers, input and output scalers, was the most attractive feature of the V-1600HD for Subfrantic, the company says.

The V-1600HD will be used for video production on a run of award events but it will also serve as the control hub for their 'video package', allowing clients to add in LED walls or projectors to the package as required.

Having everything in the one box is ideal for Subfrantic, who also hire equipment, as shipping and set up of one compact unit as opposed to having separate monitors and outboard is both easier and more cost effective.

The ability to process at 1080p on DVI-D/HDMI was also an important requirement as was the flexibility of the V-1600HD to design and produce a variety of high end production options for both live and fixed install. The dual independent multi-format outputs of the V-1600HD provide a number of innovative multi-screen output options including the ability to SPAN the mixer output to two projectors with the ability to edge-blend the center. In AUX mode, the outputs can be set to different resolutions, which is ideal for sending the program out to a record feed, say Roland.
