Throughout the year, Sydney Theatre plays host to productions from the Sydney Theatre Company as well as dance and drama productions from companies such as the Melbourne Theatre Company, Sydney Dance Company and the Australian Ballet.
Since many recent productions have been specifying next generation lighting consoles such as ETC Eos, head of lighting Andrew Tompkins decided it was time to upgrade. After testing various consoles the undisputed winner was the ETC Eos range.
"EOS gives us a very powerful set of lighting tools to meet the expectations of today's designers, while providing a familiar syntax for operators moving up from our old Strand consoles," remarked Tompkins."
Deputy head of lighting and board operator Sophie Kurylowicz adds, "I was thrown into the deep end last year with an incoming show on the Ion, and after a little training it just felt right."
Herkes Professional Lighting have supplied Sydney Theatre with a package consisting of Eos, Ion, remote processor, remote video interface and Pathport data distribution, including the first Pathport Octo in the country.
"Herkes have been great, ETC reply almost before I've sent the email and the ETC user forums have a massive worldwide user base," added Tompkins. "Upgrading a lighting system isn't meant to be this easy."
