As the name sugests, Black Box Theatre is painted completely black inside, and has a seating area of 128m2. The simple black room is able to bring many theatrical performances to life with the help of high quality sound and lighting systems. National Art Council's original Black Box Theatre lacked that certain quality in their sound and lighting systems. Synergy AVL's design and consulting team surveyed the existing system in the theatre and replaced them with components from the well-known brands that it carries.
A combination of Outline EIDOS 15, EIDOS 12 and EIDOS 118SW subwoofers have been installed. The EDIOS speakers are driven by Outline DPA 1004 digital power amplifiers - both made by Italian Audio manufacturer, Outline - and have proven to be extremely suited in areas that require a permanent high quality installation sound.
A Mackie 24-Channel Mixer, Shure SLX wireless handheld and headset microphone systems, and a Numark CDN55 Dual CD Player and Tascam cassette player complete the installed sound system to ensure that it is well enough equipped to cater to the wide range of performances that will be staged in the theatre.
Synergy's design consultants re-proposed the arrangement of luminaries so that the lighting coverage is evened-out and overall illumination is achieved. Luci Della Ribalta professional lighting products from Italy were chosen to achieve the desired outcome. Theatrical luminaries such as LDR ALBA 8/22 Profile, LDR ARIA F1000 Fresnel, LDR Alba 18/36, LDR RIMA A500 and Parcan were installed. To satisfy the theatricals and drama requirements, D.T.S. Deltas 10F LED lights were installed to provide the appropriate lighting effects.
All theatrical luminaries are connected through DDP1213 wall mount dimmers manufactured by SRS Light Design. The built-in thermal management and vario-speed fans in the DDP1213 design assures quick and long term operation of the theatrical luminaries. The high profile installation also incorporates Klotz Cables for all the power, audio, lighting, and control cables for the project.
The theatre's resident lighting programmer and operator are now given more creativity with the assistance of a new Zero 88 ORB XF theatrical lighting console which was recommended by Synergy. This is the first Zero 88 ORB XF console install in Singapore.
