This gave him the confidence to move forward with the latest Après Scandinavian-style ski-lodge development in Stafford earlier this summer. What the experience of the Summer Row operation provided for the company's preferred sound system integrators, TASC, was the opportunity to undertake an A/B comparison of sound systems.
"Since you can walk in one door and through to the other venue, you are able to make a direct comparison," said TASC project manager Brett Kyte: "The Nexo PS8/PS10/LS500 combination in Mechu completely blew away the other system and the owners said that this was the sound they wanted."
Loudspeaker configurations vary based on the footprint but in Stafford 14 Nexo PS8s are distributed around the room, reinforced by six LS400 subs. Along with the loudspeakers TASC also purchased their amplifiers from distributors Fuzion plc, finding that four of the impedance-optimised Camco Tectons were perfect for powering the mid-highs, while a pair of Tecton 28.4s drive the low end.
The system is fed from the legendary John Henry's Gaga media server via the Allen & Heath iDR4 DSP engine. "This is all purpose-EQ'd and programmed to deliver different music and video content at different volume levels, depending on the time of day," says Kyte, adding that the DSP also receives separate DJ and Sky audio inputs. The atmosphere of the red-leather interior is also affected by subtle washes from LED colour-changers. Based on the success of Summer Row and Stafford, the Nexo/Camco combo will now form the template for further installations, confirms Kyte.
