"Many educational institutions now offer courses in music and video technology, which means they have an ongoing requirement for cable for their recording studios and edit suites," says VDC Trading's commercial director Nigel May. "However, there is also significant demand for cable to support AV installations in lecture theatres and seminar rooms - and that's an area where we have seen a marked increase in business."
Among the many customers VDC Trading supplies is the Media and Learning Technology Service (MALTS) of the University of Edinburgh, which has over 40 lecture theatres and 200 seminar rooms under its umbrella. John Power, senior technical officer for the project, says: "We use VDC cable throughout. Most of our lecture theatres have AMX touch screen control systems, while our seminar rooms have Pro Con 16 and 18 button control systems. Nearly all our rooms are wired using VDC products."
The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, recently opened its sixth recording studio. Manager Anthony Greaves says, "The new studio is equipped with an Audient console and G5 computers. As with all our studio facilities, it is entirely wired with VDC products."
In related news, VDC reports that Moolah Rouge Studios in Stockport recently increased its stock of Van Damme cables in preparation for a visit by internationally acclaimed artist, Badly Drawn Boy. The two-studio facility is a firm favourite with Damon Gough who recorded and mixed his long awaited fourth album One Plus One Is One at Moolah Rouge.
