The Twang at Lakefest

UK - The grounds of Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire hosted this month’s Lakefest 2024 where, once again, all seven stages at this popular festival featured Nexo sound systems.

Total Sound Solutions crossed the border from Swansea to rig the main stage with left and right hangs of 12 x Nexo Geo M12s and eight MSUB18s, plus two separate hangs of five Geo M12s for delays and a single hang of Geo M10 for the VIP side hang. Eight RS18 subs were deployed across the front of the stage with additional MSUB18s in a cardioid formation, with Nexo’s versatile P15 point source speakers used for front-fills.

Side-fill duties on the main stage were performed by a Nexo live sound veteran. “Artists and engineers were so pleased to see our Alpha E system on the stage,” reports Total Sound CEO Chris Hooke. “The fact that it’s 25 years old and still welcome everywhere says a lot about Nexo. It’s not a ‘fashion’ brand. It’s a workhorse that always delivers in every situation. In short, it’s a product that makes us money.”

“The system sounds fantastic and Total Sound are a dream to work with,” comments Reaper Events’ Mark Whitehouse, responsible for production at Lakefest. “Everything ran like clockwork. They really knocked it out of the park.”

A series of visiting engineers were similarly enthusiastic about Total Sound and the Nexo Geo M12 system, including Russell Tite who mixed The Twang at Lakefest on Thursday, returning on Saturday to do the same for Jake Bugg.

“I had the pleasure of visiting twice. The Total Sound Solutions guys were top notch and great guys to hang out with. And the PA sounded pretty damn good too! It was really easy to achieve the mix I was looking for, both on the house console with The Twang and bringing in our own control package with Jake.”

“With Nexo, it’s not only about the product. It’s also about the support and the exchange of ideas,” continues Chris. “We’ve got Nexo Engineering Support with us at Lakefest. They integrate into part of the team and it’s great to have the benefit of their international tour sound expertise on site.

“And it flows both ways. This year at Lakefest, we’re trialling Nexo’s powerful new P18 point source speaker as a standalone drum-fill with no sub required, and we’ll let the ES team know how it goes.”

Other artists in the Lakefest 2024 line-up included The Stranglers, The Libertines and Olly Murs, plus DJ sets from Rudimental and Sigala.

“In addition to the main stage, Total Sound also supplied Nexo inventory to a number of other stages in support of other companies on site,” comments Nexo UK sales manager Rich Soper. “Once again, it’s great to see the Nexo family coming together to deliver a fantastic four days of live music for 18,000 people.”
