UK - Tower Productions recently provided a turnkey package in the grounds of Cardiff Castle for a Heineken Cup Final event, comprising power, heating, lighting, audio, video and networking.

Site access restrictions meant no large plant could deployed so Tower synchronised four 100kva machines from their own stock to give a 400kva generation package with 100% redundancy.

Christie Roadster HD18ks, Philips Vari-Lite VL3000 spots, and a dozen ETC Source Four profiles looked after the external branding/projection onto the castle walls with Dominator and NovaLight High Ground searchlights for aerial effects. 40 green 400W HQI's provided a solid base colour to the castle walls.

Inside the marquee, an array of HD plasma screens from Tower's newly formed AV department were recessed into the set showing the game, associated branding and information, live camera and a Sky HD feed.

Inside, custom gobo work was via white Studio Spot 250s and a selection of generic fittings (mostly in white) and an extensive array of LED fixtures, hung from custom painted white trussing and barrel.

DB-4 battens were recessed into set pieces as were UV tubes into the bar structures and bottle features. Control was from a Jands Vista T2 with remote access via iPad with dimming and switching via two 48-way Avolites ART2000 racks.

A site wide production network was established allowing remote access to lighting and sound hardware, file sharing between all production PCs and a VOIP telephone system.

A d&b audio system, managed by d&b R1 control software and remotely accessible over the network, was used to broadcast audio, presentations and music throughout the day.

Tower's James Mitchelmore commented: "This type of event is a perfect example of our strengths in delivering multi-skilled packages to the highest of standards. Increasingly our clients prefer to make one call for all their production needs as is clearly displayed by this job. Our continuing investment in all asset types from audio and video, to smart super-hushed generators, makes us uniquely placed to service a wide range of briefs from stock."
