UK - Dartford's Orchard Theatre is a well-established venue in one of the most heavily populated areas of England. From orchestras to tribute bands, comedy to lectures, plays to pantomimes, the Orchard attracts a diverse audience from a wide catchment area throughout south and east London, Kent and Essex.

When the theatre wanted to upgrade the audio system of its Circle Bar, the speakers needed to be able to broadcast a diversity of content with uniform high quality. So specialist AV installers Whitwam turned to Turbosound. "The Circle Bar is designed for use as a stand alone meeting / seminar space and for holding varying workshops and small shows. At those times the speakers need to deliver standalone high quality foreground music and sound reinforcement," says Whitwam's senior engineer, Andy Pymm. "When the bar isn't being used as a separate area, the speakers need to deliver quality background music and paging announcements, which are also being delivered to other areas of the theatre."

Installed as part of a wider upgrade of the venue's audio system, to achieve this aim the system features an Allen & Heath iDR8 digital mixing processor with several local control interfaces. It takes feeds from a range of paging and show relay microphones, as well as background music sources and local audio inputs. It interfaces with the show manager's desk for paging control, with the outputs run to loudspeakers throughout the venue.

For the Circle Bar, Whitwam chose four of Turbosound's new TCS-121CT enclosures, which were installed within the bar's space frame ceiling structure. "We chose the new TCS speakers because they are a quality product that offers all the options we wanted, 100V line, fly points and fittings built in, with good coverage and performance for a 100V cabinet," Pymm continues. "We had to work out a way of mounting the speakers from the tubular space framing in the ceiling area, so we liaised with Turbosound and together came up with the idea of a simple top mount bracket which clamps on to the tubes."

The brackets were manufactured by metalwork specialists Power Drive, with the seamless liaison between Whitwam and Turbosound ensuring that the issue was speedily resolved and that the installation was both quick and uncomplicated. "The speakers sound great. They're clear and distinct and the client is very happy, as are we," says Pymm. "Turbosound gear is very good, they provided us with all the information we needed, when we needed it and helped make the job flow very smoothly."
