Colum O'Neill, RG Design's technical director, outlined the project: "Skye's entertainment manager, Eamon Beagon, came to see us with a requirement for a top-quality system, to tie in with the club's high-end image. He was interested in using a Turbosound-based system, as he had heard a number of our Turbosound installations in other clubs and had been impressed with the results. Due to space constraints, the design called for compact enclosures, and Turbosound's QLight systems can certainly produce the goods, achieving high SPLs from the small boxes."
Accommodating up to 1200 people, Skye is designed around three main zones - a combined VIP lounge and members' area, a downstairs club bar with pool tables, plus the dance floor and DJ areas. The dance floor zone features four QLight TQ-440 enclosures and four TQ-425 sub-woofers, with four TQ-310 units providing coverage off the dance floor itself. A further two TQ-310 units have been installed in the DJ booth, along with a TQ-115 sub-bass. A Turbosound LMS-D6 loudspeaker management system controls the system in the dance floor zone, and the DJ booth has been equipped with an Allen & Heath Xone:62 mixer, three Technics SL-1200 turntables, and two Pioneer CDJ-1000 jog-dial CD players.
Installed in the VIP lounge are eight Turbosound TCS-35 compact trapezoidal two-ways, two TQ-115 and eight TL-1500 sub-bass units, while the design for the downstairs area incorporates a distributed system of 16 Turbosound Impact 80 enclosures, backed up by eight TQ-115 sub-bass models. Crest Audio power amplifiers are used throughout Skye, operating with BSS Audio Soundweb systems and Jellyfish controllers.
RG Design Light & Sound has a 20-year history of providing sound, lighting and AV systems across both Northern and Southern Ireland, including numerous club installations. The company's long-standing experience and success in the club market is also attracting interest in its services from mainland UK.
