Robin Elias receives his award at PLASA Show 2024

UK - Rigging pioneer Robin Elias was the proud recipient of the 2024 Gottelier Award. Nominated and voted for by his industry peers, Elias collected the award from PLASA MD, Peter Heath and chair, Adam Blaxill at this year’s PLASA Show, which took place 1-3 September at Olympia London.

Named in memory of the renowned industry innovator and commentator, Tony Gottelier, the award celebrates those who have made significant, long-term contributions to the advancement of entertainment, presentation or installation technology.

Elias began his career in rock ‘n’ roll, touring with iconic bands such as The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen and Genesis. He went on to become technical director of Unusual Rigging, where he delivered often complex and challenging rigging solutions across diverse sectors, including film and TV, live events, museums and art galleries, and for spectacular aerial performances.

With extensive experience, including the suspension of numerous aircraft, Elias recently retired from Unusual, but continues to consult and occasionally works on-site for particularly challenging projects. He remains active in the industry as a member of the National Rigging Advisory Group (NRAG) and an assessor for the National Rigging Certificate (NRC).

On receiving the award, he said: “I can’t quite believe I have won this fantastic award. Thank you so much for voting for me. I have rigged almost everything over the last 50 years, but I didn’t rig the vote. . . honest! This award really is for riggers everywhere; the true stars of the events industry.”

Congratulations Robin!
