UK - The Moving Picture Company (MPC) based in Soho, London, has taken delivery of two cineo3+ 1080 DLP projectors from Norway's projectiondesign for use in visual effects review suites.

The projectors were supplied by Iain Ambler, product manager at UK distributor RGB Communications via theatre system specialist Kaurus, and installed by MPC in conjunction with Kaurus.

Martin Parsons, head of imaging at MPC, says: "We use a wide range of projectors here and it's not cost-effective to have the big digital cinema projectors in all our visual effects (VFX) review suites as they will be too big for the rooms concerned and too expensive for the tasks we use them for. So we were looking for something smaller and more cost effective, but not compromised on technology."

The giant digiLED screen featured performances from both international and regional artists, all celebrating Divac's career and contribution to international basketball.

Further, a short movie in which several of Divac's friends and colleagues, including NBA stars Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Bobby Jackson, Yao Ming, coach Phil Jackson, rapper Snoop Dog, Red Hot Chili Peppers, actor Billy Crystal and many others, praising his efforts and career, was show on the huge screen.

UK - Projected Image Digital (PID), and architectural lighting design practice Indigo, have designed specified and installed a spectacular Element Labs VersaPixel ceiling effect for the house gymnasium of a leading investment bank in London's Canary Wharf.

PID supplied 1500 25mm square VersaPixels, a VersaDRIVE C1 driver and a, Pharos LPC1 architectural lighting controller for the project, which was co-ordinated for them by Sam Douglas.

PID also designed and manufactured custom steel mounting brackets for the VersaPixels which are installed in the room's ceiling panels, and created 17 special clips of digital content, working to a brief from Indigo's Paul Nulty and gym staff.

USA - Distributor TMB has announced that Hippotizer V3 training will be available at LDI, hosted by the LDI Institute, offering an opportunity to get intensive hands-on training on the Hippotizer V3 Media Server from Green Hippo. The Workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, 13 November, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in room 104B.

UK - Earlier this week, two pallets of Kramer Electronics equipment were stolen from the back of a lorry in Hemel Hempstead, UK.

Amongst the long list of items stolen were the first VS-42HDMI 4x2 HDMI matrix switchers to be brought into the UK, and the first FC-31 UXGA-DVI converter. Products suitable for broadcast, professional AV and custom install were stolen.

Austria - Visual Productions has confirmed the appointment of Vienna based company Klangfarbe Sound & Light as a new dealer for its lighting control software products.

Founded in the 1980s to supply musicians with the newest gear combined with a high level of service and support, Klangfarbe today consists of four divisions - E-Guitars, Acoustics, Studio & Keyboards and Sound & Light.

The Sound & Light division focuses on pro-audio and light solutions for installation into, amongst other venues, museums, shops and bars. USA - Having been used to great effect earlier this year on the National Football League's (NFL) Superbowl trophy, Lighthouse Technologies' ultra fine resolution R4 4mm LED screen is being used for broadcasting Sunday Night Football on NBC at 8pm every Sunday this fall.

Hosted by Al Michaels giving play-by-play commentary and John Madden as the colour announcer, the show broadcasts Sunday night's primetime games.

New York-based full service production company AG Light and Sound is responsible for the installation and operation of the screen, which is positioned at the rear of the onsite broadcast booth. An XClyps video playback system from Chyron supplies the video feed from NBC's mobile production studio. The system is composed of an HD background loop with a live feed of scores and HD-SDI input. UK - Projection specialists E/T/C UK supplied Christie high powered video projection and an OnlyView multi-screen control system onto a 24 metre curved screen for the BT Digital Music Awards, a Ballistic Events project, staged at London's Roundhouse.

The event honoured the best in the fast moving world of music-related digital innovation and communications. It was presented by Sara Cox and broadcast on Channel 4.

E/T/C UK's Andy Joyes was approached by Paul Corrick, from production company Reality, to supply projection for the event. It was the first time the two companies have collaborated, and Reality's Creative Director Alice Lindars worked closely with Joyes and the E/T/C UK team to design and programme the widescreen Awards nominations/winners graphics package plus live screen inserts.

UK - For the first time in 50 years, the massive dish of the Jodrell Bank Observatory's Lovell Radio Telescope was utilised as a giant open-air projection screen for a public son et lumière event, Space 50.

Space 50 is a series of events celebrating 50 Years since the launch of the world's first artificial satellite - Sputnik 1 - which the Telescope tracked - significantly marking the dawn of the "Space Age".

Creative Media Techniques (CMT) supplied all technical infrastructure - including projection, lighting, lasers and sound - and crew, working closely with show producer Dr Alastair Gunn, a radio astronomer from the University of Manchester's School of Physics and Astronomy - who conceived the event.

Europe - 'Innovation, information, and inspiration' are the three themes for this year's Integrated Systems Roadshow, as it prepares to depart on a five-city tour of some of Europe's emerging markets for AV and Electronic Systems technology.

The Roadshow, powered by Integrated Systems Europe, begins in the Danish capital of Copenhagen on 17 October, before visiting Warsaw (19 Oct), Prague (22 Oct), Vienna (24 Oct), and Zagreb (26 Oct).

In addition to an expanded exhibition area, the Roadshow will feature a strong line-up of education sessions, led by some of the AV industry's most respected professionals, and all provided free of charge to attendees.

USA - Rob Drake, Mayor of Beaverton, Oregon, joined with Beaverton-based Biamp Systems and industry advocacy group, InfoComm, to officially declare 21-27 October as AV Week. A host of companies and organisations from around the world will celebrate AV Week with special events at schools, job fairs and community outreach activities.

Biamp has organised a series of special events to take place over the course of AV Week including visits to local area High Schools to perform complimentary hearing exams and present a lecture on the science of sound and a tour of the company's R&D and manufacturing facilities by students from the DSP programme at Portland State University.

Germany - A spectacular event to celebrate 60 years of Volkswagen vans held in Hanover, Germany, attracted an impressive 71,000 visitors. Atman, Croatia's leading AV specialists supplied and installed a giant digiLED d11R screen for the duration of the festivities.

Volkswagen van fans travelled from as far away as Australia, Portugal, Russia, the Ukraine, Denmark, Poland, the UK, France and Holland to celebrate the occasion. The celebrations started with a special convoy through Hanover from the Volkswagen factory to the showground hosting the event.

All the event festivities, including presentations and prize ceremonies, were relayed onto the digiLED screen from an OB truck on site. A concert by The Who ended the celebrations in spectacular style.

USA - Constantine Zachariou, engineer and project manager for Washington-based audio/video design firm Avidex, was contracted to handle the audio renovation of the downtown Seattle Art Museum. Zachariou chose Symetrix' SymNet DSP systems to be at the heart of each of the museum's six new audio systems. His objective was to upgrade the museum's audio systems to handle the museum's many uses while still ensuring transparent, easy operation for the museum staff.

The downtown Seattle Art Museum, a crown jewel in the city's vibrant cultural life and home to works spanning human history across many cultures, recently underwent an $86 million renovation and expansion that dramatically increased its gallery space, created a new shop and restaurant, and propelled its audio systems into the 21st century.

UK - XL Video has taken delivery of 20 new Barco FLM HD 18K projectors including lenses and lamps, worth 2 million Euros.

XL Video UK's MD Lee Spencer explained that the purchase is the latest in XL's ongoing commitment to offering their clients the very latest and best available technologies.

A number of the new Barco HD units will be based at the Bromsgrove, West Midlands offices of Show Support (an XL Group company). XL's HD units are making their debut on the new Take That tour which kicked off last week.

Canada - Now into its second year, Virgin's V-Fest in the city of Toronto attracted 35,000 fans. Braving long waits at the ferry didn't deter the crowds who were rewarded with V's ubiquitous top class line-up including The Killers, Bjork, The Smashing Pumpkins and Arctic Monkeys, and Lighthouse Technologies' LED screens formed an integral part of the action.

UK - XL Video UK is supplying Maximo Park's lighting and visuals designer Stevie Marr with Barco MiTrix screen and Catalyst digital media server for the band's current UK and European tour, marking stage three of a progressive video/lighting design process which commenced at the start of 2006.

For Marr, an enthusiastic exponent of video and lighting 'convergence', the MiTrix added a new edge and depth to the show as well as providing surfaces for his custom created video clips. These were all sorted on and played back through two layers of the Catalyst.

UK - Tyco Traffic & Transportation (Tyco T&T), part of Tyco Fire & Integrated is building on its success in audio visual systems for local government with the design and installation of a new generation AV system to enhance communications during meetings held by Wycombe District Council.

The integrated system provided by Tyco T&T includes new large screen displays, projection equipment and desktop displays. The entire system is linked using the latest Cat 6 network cabling which is designed to minimise the amount of cabling and help make the system easy to expand and future-proof.

The system includes a total of 11 screens including two large screen projectors and pull-down screens at each side of the large general chamber. The large screen projectors can show two different AV presentations simultaneously.
