Turkmenistan - On New Year's Eve, a large laser projection appeared on the facade of the 175m high Anayasa tower in Turkmenistan. As part of the projection a laser counted down the last seconds of the year and the gathered crowd cheered as 2012 arrived and magnificent fireworks erupted.

At the same time, a giant permanent laser installation was launched. Scheduled for continuous operation in January 2012, the installation connects the highest towers of the Turkmenistan capital city Ashgabat with "dazzlingly-bright" laser beams in the national colour of green. Display lasers (used for building projections) are used as part of the project, seen for the first time on New Year's Eve.

Poland - New Year's Eve 2012 was celebrated in style in Wroclaw. ARAM, one of the biggest event engineering company in Poland, participated in this show, organized by Polish Television providing latest LED multimedia .

The set contained 120msq.m of Fourlight FlexLED LED curtain installed as a main screen and side screens. Additionally, ARAM also delivered more than 50m ² LED screens (SMD 10mm) also from Fourlight.

One of the LED screens with an area of 35sq.m was set to the side of the stage, a second smaller one stand 200m from stage. The sets also featured Barco Mitrix and MiStrips.

Lighting gear included Pulsar Chroma batten's, Sharpy's from ClayPacky and many others. Multimedia was driven by two Catalyst HD media servers , operated jointly with lighting by three WholeHogs III.

UK - Green Hippo has announced Adrian Gilby and Philippe Levieux as new members of the software development team.

Levieux will be joining Green Hippo's programming team under the title of researcher and software developer, aiding the production of new features in up and coming releases of Hippotizer software.

Gilby is a programmer who also works under the title of software developer, using his experience of a variety of languages and APIs. He has concentrated mainly on realtime rendering and 3D graphics using C and C++. For most of his career he has worked in the games industry or for middleware companies. Adrian will be working on specifying, designing and implementing new features for Green Hippo's existing range of products as well as for any new products Green Hippo release.

South Africa - A Christie MicroTiles display and Christie Spyder image processing provided a design highlight at the recent IMN-hosted South African Capital Markets Summit at the Westin Cape Town Hotel's Conference Centre.

Taking place for the ninth year, the two-day event set out to examine the recovery and growth of the South African securitisation and debt capital markets communities - and featured a number of keynote speakers.

Christie partners, Gearhouse South Africa, serviced the event's design/ production company, Eventworx, with an imaginative MicroTiles solution, designed to wow the 500 invitees, from various financial institutions.

Gearhouse were early adopters of MicroTiles, and with 100 modules in their inventory were comfortably able to design an 11 x 8 landscape display, set in the foyer of the Conference Centre, to allow content to be screened in 16:9 format.
