G-Spots in action at Horse Guards Parade Ground (photo: MPP Image Creation)
UK - London-based White Light has added to its inventory of SGM's new generation of task specific LED products by making its first investment in the award-winning G-Spot platform.

The fixture, which picked up a PLASA Innovation Award soon after its launch, is the only IP65-rated LED spot on the market, and boasts enviable functionality and luminous output from an 850W high power RGBY LED light source.

White Light hire & technical director, Dave Isherwood, whose company last year became the first UK customer for the P-5 washlight, says, "We've been considering G-Spot for some time, and have been talking regularly to Ian Kirby at SGM UK.

"Because G-Spots function outdoors, and are incredibly bright and crisp, we could see the potential both for our own work and for cross-hire/sub-rentals. We decided to make the investment and promptly picked up three jobs in quick succession [which required G-Spot]. So the timing worked perfectly."

Longer term, he sees great potential for use at festivals where it will be able to perform in all weathers. Wherever they make it to, he knows the sealed units will require minimum prep and maintenance time, an important factor for the busy rental company. "It will be quick to clean and we won't constantly be changing lamps or filters, or wiping domes," he adds.

Immediate high profile locations which have seen G-Spot action in double quick time are Battersea Power Station, where another rental company used White Light's G-Spots to fire over 80m at the Totally Thames Festival, while the best of all was for one of White Light's own productions - an event for a legal consortium at Westminster Abbey and Horse Guards Parade Ground in central London; here the buildings behind - such as the Old Admiralty Building and Household Cavalry Museum - were dramatically washed with G-Spot's inventive library of different gobo projections.

Dave Isherwood says that White Light have never looked back since making their first investment in the P-5s 15 months ago, followed by X-5 white LED strobes. "SGM gives us something different in every case," he says. "With P-5 it's the output within a reduced form factor, and the versatility it gives us from outdoor jobs to conferences.

"The range will cover one end of the spectrum to the other and the same goes for G-Spot, which in addition to its other benefits has wireless control, which will be particularly useful."
