Located close to the Colonne di San Lorenzo, Milan's noted Roman ruin, Todos a Cuba was designed by Novara-based architects Archizero. Comprising a single level, L-shaped space, the brief was to create a venue with a strong individual identity. One side of the L accommodates the bar area and the other customer tables and seating, the contrasting elements of each linked by visual devices, like the suspended ceiling of the seating area being imitated in the fascia of the bar.
A two-zone audio system was specified for background music and a feed from a Sky TV decoder for live sport. This was the ideal type of installation for Yamaha's CIS products - in this case a compact MA2030 mixer amplifier and PA2030 power amplifier, which drive eight VXC4 four-inch, full range ceiling loudspeakers.
Three VXC4s are installed in the bar area and five in the seating area, giving seamless coverage throughout the venue. As well as the input from the Sky decoder, the MA2030 also receives audio from a Yamaha CD-N301 CD player with Spotify audio streaming. Source selection and control for the CD-N301 is by Yamaha's NP Controller iPhone app, with overall system adjustment via a wall-mounted DCP1V4S controller.
"Archizero chose Yamaha CIS equipment because of its sound quality and flexible system design; plus the fact that Yamaha products have a great reputation for reliability and its excellent price-quality ratio," says Nicola Zucchino of Yamaha Musica Italia.
"The bar owners are really impressed with the solution - the sound quality and coverage has exceeded their expectations and they really like the ability to remotely control the CD-N301 from an iPhone."
