Situated beneath Sainsbury's business centre in Holborn, the Sainsbury's Local store required a lighting solution that would offer clean, direct illumination for a busy retail environment while maintaining unobtrusive impact. The answer was Tecton, a continuous row lighting system from Zumtobel Lighting.
Designed by Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners, Tecton is a flexible, cost effective lighting system which incorporates the needs of future technology, says the company. Well-balanced, uniform lighting vital to the supermarket retail experience is complemented by the addition of Proton, a flexible spotlight for directional light in highlight areas.
Tecton is an adaptable trunking system, meaning that data cables, power supplies and lighting control systems can be neatly incorporated and tapped off at any point. Emergency lighting supply or monitoring cables can be accommodated within the trunking, eliminating the requirements for additional systems.
The open ceiling space created by the suspended luminaire at the new Sainsbury's store has created a brighter more welcoming space for shoppers to enjoy. This ensures that people can find their way around displays and retail areas easily.
Due to long lamp lives and outstanding Tecton performance, the lighting at the Sainsbury's store has reduced running costs and greatly improved performance, says the company. Improvements have already been seen in store with marked sales increases.
