UK - The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has published a consultation document in order to elicit views about the fee levels to be established under the Licensing Act 2003. The consultation period ends this Thursday, 23 December. The fees relate in part to applications for authorisations to provide regulated entertainment, and also include fees for notices for temporary events. Before finalizing the fee levels, the DCMS aims to consult as widely as possible on the appropriate level for these fees. The consultation document can be viewed here.

Local Authorities are lobbying the secretary of state claiming that the proposed fees should be set locally, allowing them to effectively draw an income from the exercise. Those with an interest in the fture of live music are being encouraged by musicians groups to email, fax or write to the Secretary of State supporting the proposed fee structure; confirming the sensible, fair, approach of applying a fee centrally; endorsing the plan and suggesting how this will assist musicians; and agreeing that the temporary event license fee of £21.00 appears reasonable for smaller intermittent venues.

Time is short, and views or comments need to be sent by 23 December 2004 to: The Alcohol and Entertainment Licensing Policy Branch, Tourism Division, 3rd Floor, 2-4 Cockspur Street, London SW1Y 5DH, or via e-mail to the address shown below.
