USA - Once again Total Structures will be helping one the largest motor manufacturer's promote their products at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) being held in Detroit in January. Hot on the heels of last year's massive Ford corporate structure (a total of 1.5 Miles of truss was supplied) the company has just finished the production of additional equipment for both the Ford and General Motors booths.

For NAIAS 2007 the Ford Motor Company made some changes to the previous year's enormous 110,000sq.ft. ceiling structure, with the entire ceiling moving 15ft. upstage to allow lighting troughs to be repositioned over the new floor layout.

Independent owners Stuart Hayles and Ian Fell, who also own The Castle pub in the town, spotted a gap in the market that they thought they could fill with their brand new 300 capacity venue concept, sited on first floor a former bank.

UK - Exhibition Specialists Silver Knight worked with luxury boat maker Sealine to produce a stunning, technology-led exhibition stand at the Collins Stewart London Boat Show 2007. The 1400sq.m space was designed by Silver Knight to not only display several ranges of boats, but incorporate VIP areas, an under-floor conference room, catering, office and storage facilities. The stand also provided the international launch platform for Sealine's newest boat, the SC38, to the international press attending the show.

UK - Digital lighting and video specialists Projected Image Digital launches the first of its 2007 Digital Video Workshops - due to be held on Tuesday 6 February at The Questors Theatre, Mattock Lane, Ealing, London W5 5BQ. Lighting North Tradeshow is moving to a new purpose-built exhibition hall with 50% more space to facilitate an expanded exhibitor line-up and rising attendance levels, the company reports. The event takes place on 1-2 May in the new Saviles Hall at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, which is adjacent to the original location and now the city's largest exhibition venue.

As well as accommodating the show's expansion plans, the improved facilities also enable the organisers to provide the main exhibition, complementary theatre seminars programme and buffet lunch with a bar and dining area, all within the same hall.

UAE - Dubai-based production company HQ Creative, working closely with Done Events, delivered the opening ceremony of the 18th Gulf Cup in Abu Dhabi's Zayed Sports City Stadium. The show, conceived by HQ's creative director Katie Veira, was a 37-minute mixed media spectacular, and the largest opening event to date for a football tournament.

The performance featured 1200 live performers, 55 horses and an international production team of over 400, working with around 1700 local crew over the build period. The show was enjoyed live by 55,000 excited spectators and a TV audience of 50 million who tuned in to Dubai Sports.

Hong Kong - Being one of Europe's oldest university towns, Bologna is synonymous with Italy's largest motor show which is hosted annually. In December 2006, the event was once again the showcase chosen by many motor manufacturers to launch their new models. There was widespread use of AV technology at the show, and several key exhibitors including Mercedes, Audi, and Subaru, chose Lighthouse LED screens at their booths.

The Netherlands - With just a few days to go until the fourth edition of Integrated Systems Europe opens in Amsterdam, the show organisers have announced that visitors to ISE 2007 will see a show that is bigger in size and has twice the number of special features than in previous events. World - Alternative rock band Tool has added two grandMA full-size, one for lighting control and one for video control, to its manifest for its forthcoming US, European and Australian dates. "Video is a very dominant factor with Tool," notes designer/director Mark Jacobson who has been working with the band since 1996. "All the video is pre-taped; there's no live camera. We don't use spots, just the fixtures we have on the rig to give a more mysterious look.

"I've used the grandMA almost exclusively since 2002," he continues. "It gives me the flexibility to move things around the way I like it to work. I'm not forced to run the show the way whoever designed the board wants me to; instead, the grandMA is very open to the user. I also love its wireless remote."

USA - Young lighting designers can showcase their talents and win an all-expense-paid trip to the Worship Facilities Expo (WFX) show in Atlanta as part of the Elation Education Experience.

The contest will ask students and young lighting designers to come up with lighting specs and a design layout for an imaginary multipurpose youth ministry building with a stage performance area. Entrants will be provided with CompuLive Pro software, along with a stage, trussing and room layout scene -- and, just like in the "real world," they'll have to work within a budget and power service limitations.

UK - Thousands gathered in London's Trafalgar Square for the third Russian Winter Festival, where Star Events Group took on the challenge of installing its groundbreaking Morbit stage. Performers included The Suvorovsky Ensemble of the Military and Music Academy of the Ministry of Defence (originally set up as a second Moscow school for the Red Army), folk groups including Cossack Soul, the Chuvash State Ensemble of Song and Dance, Pelageya and Russian Song, plus contemporary artists including Ranetki and Tokio and Russian pop legend Garik Sukachiov.

Star Events Group supplied its 13m Morbit stage for the event, plus a 5m front of house structure positioned on top of the Square's terrace. The stage, dressed with large banners supplied by Imaginators, was put into position by a standard tractor unit and built using its pair of integral cranes. These were then used to fly the PA.<
