Australia - With a wide selection of performance venues, theatres, and the historic Sydney Opera House vying for the public's attention, the caliber of even the smaller theatres in Sydney, Australia tends to be exceptionally high.

The Glen Street Theatre, a 400-seat, multipurpose proscenium arch auditorium located in suburban Belrose in Sydney's Northern Beaches area, is one such small theatre. The Glen Street Theatre presents a range of theatrical productions from Australia's leading performing arts companies, as well as concerts, children's theatre, and other events. Now, more than 20 years after its curtain first rose, the Glen Street Theatre shines even brighter due to an extensive refurbishment that included a new Meyer Sound system provided by Alexandria, New South Wales-based Coda Audio Services Pty Ltd.

The main system employs four UPJ-1P VariO loudspeakers: one on either side of the proscenium framing the stage, and two more in the centre overhead position. A USW-1P subwoofer is mounted on each of the side walls flanking the proscenium. Three UPM-1P loudspeakers, utilised primarily for surround channels, are mounted left, centre, and right on the rear wall. The UPM-1P loudspeakers can also be mounted on a bridge above the audience, if needed, to serve as rear delay fill for a musical.

"The theatre wanted a high-quality loudspeaker system that would be acceptable to the major touring arts companies that come through the venue," says Coda Audio Services director Michael Wilkie. "The Glen Street regularly hosts some of Australia's biggest theatrical companies, like the Sydney Theatre Company and Bell Shakespeare Company, as well as celebrated Australian actors like Jonathan Biggins, Max Cullen, and Drew Forsythe. When the production coordinators for those high-level companies see a Meyer Sound system, they know immediately that the Glen Street Theatre can meet the exceptional standards they are accustomed to."

"The UPJ speakers are ideal in terms of size and sightlines, and their performance is stellar. They sounded great right out of the box; the Meyer system exceeded everyone's expectations," continued Wilkie.(Claire Beeson)
