The ARX ZA400, ZA600 and ZA800 amplifiers have been fitted by PIVoD with their new audio streaming technology, VIPA (Venue Internet Protocol Audio). With VIPA, each ARX ZA amplifier features an Internet Protocol (IP) interface that allows the amplifier to be monitored for the operating and control status of each stereo channel pair and the AC power control 'on/off' of each amplifier. The amplifiers are then controlled and monitored with the PIVoD Technologies Show Control System, which allows for public address requirements such as music, announcements and messaging to be carried across a standard ethernet/data network.
The benefits of this IP-based approach are many, including simplicity in cabling infrastructure (as audio is carried across a basic data network), ease of mapping of inputs and outputs (as with one command the same message can easily be sent to all or a combination of selected loudspeakers within the venue) and remote management capabilities with advanced feedback capabilities describing the status of each stream in detail.
The Victorian Arts Centre is the first installation in the world to take advantage of VIPA. Based on a Compaq Enterprise Server with 12 streaming clients, the entire system features 13 ARX multi-channel amplifiers directing the IP audio to 75 speaker points throughout the various front-of-house areas of the Arts Centre complex.
Until now, streaming uncompressed audio over IP (Internet Protocol) networks has proven to be an expensive and sometimes troublesome exercise, as proprietary networks and equipment have been required. PIVoD's VIPA and ARX's ZA amplifiers have provided the Victorian Arts Centre with public address capabilities unmatched by any other venue in Australia and perhapsthe world, say ARX.
