Nexo line array at heart of Seoul Light
- Details
Staged at the Dondaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in the centre of Seoul, the festival attracted more than a million visitors. The DDP is the centrepiece of South Korea's fashion hub and a popular tourist destination, Dongdaemun, which features a walkable park on its roofs, large global exhibition spaces, futuristic retail stores and restored parts of the Seoul fortress.
The entire outer wall of the DDP building, designed by Zaha Hadid, becomes a gigantic exhibition hall during the year-end and New Year’s period (20 December - 3 January). As the sun sets and the darkness falls, a large-scale light show makes the most of the, DDP’s curved silver exterior.
A powerful sound system is required to match the dramatic scale of the light show. Working together, Plan 24 and Way Audio supplied more than 50 Geo M12 line array modules. The unusual design included 10 ‘towers’, each with 4x M12 modules, facing in opposite directions. Each of the towers was mounted on two MSUB18 sub bass cabinets.
An estimated 250,000 people and tourists gathered on Christmas Day when the entire DDP exterior wall was transformed into a large gift box, and on 31 January when the special video show for the new year was released.
