Dubai - The fourth annual PALME 2006 show took place on 23-25 of April in Dubai's World Trade Centre. The show's organisers claimed a 30% increase in visitor numbers after the event, so were the exhibitors' palms crossed with goldΩ

The exhibition comprised three individual sector shows, Install, Event 360 and MUSAC. Install unsurprisingly focussed on the installation market, Event 360 targeted those with event and production needs, and MUSAC catered for the musical instrument market. PALME's well-developed seminar programme ran alongside.

A slinky dancer projected on a FogScreen lured visitors to the company's stand. CEO Mika Koivula indicated that FogScreen were "open to options" of an office or distributors in the region.

Vicky Fairall, formerly of DHA, was the friendly face of Goboland who were launching their brand new steel gobo collection catalogue. Fairall has produced more than 500 designs.

A.C. Lighting's Cally Baccus was travelling light on the way home, having sold the Jands Vista desk on show. Not having the busiest show, Baccus said: "There is a lot of disappointment amongst exhibitors and I have to say that I support them in that." Other products of interest included the Chroma Q Color Block DB4, and the Color Web.

Martin Professional's exhibits included the Mac 700 models and their architectural lighting range. From Jem, the new Hydra fog machine has 16 heads, and a base unit that monitors the entire system, which can be transported with the fluid line primed, allowing for fast set-up.

Robe is handled by V.V. & Sons, who also distribute well-known brands including LDR, Audio-Technica, Allen & Heath, and Zero 88. Robe products catching attention were the StageBanner 10 and 50 AT and the MediaSpinner. The MediaSpinner can hold 50kg and has a panel for the connection of audio, video and power.

High End were showing the DL.2, their digital automated lighting fixture which features an integrated media server, and includes a camera. The Studio Command H, a Halogen version of the Studio Command 700, is now shipping.

News at the LSC stand was that Venuetech are now the company's distributor for all Arabic-speaking countries. Discussions began in Frankfurt but the deal was finalised at PALME.

TMB was exhibiting Endura Light for the first time ever. The Endura Light series brings LED technology to fibre optics, offering a flexible alternative to neon, fluorescent or LED-based light sources. Endura Light 100 runs for up to 6m, whilst the 700 can run for up to 24m when illuminated from both ends.

Syncrolite were exhibiting an MX2000 prototype with their new OmniColor colour mixing technology, expected to be in full production by September. Syncrolite has arrived at a high temperature dichroic film to allow for CYM and RGB mixing, and have also devised a 'filter' which is capable of producing specific beam angles. Watch this space for further announcements from the Syncrolite camp.

Alpha One GmbH were showing their Falcon range of xenon beam lights in the Middle East for the first time, including the Falcon Flower and Beam. A Universal plate can be fitted to convert the fixture from a Beam to a Flower or vice versa, distributed by A&O Technology Middle East. Also new was the LED DingDotz, addressable RGB LED units on miniature strings that lock together, and can be configured to follow curves and shapes.

MA Lighting was exhibiting their dimMA - digital dimming system for permanent installations. Being modular, the system can incorporate different types and ratings of dimmers. The cabinet has a small footprint of only 600 x 600mm for 72 dimmer modules and easy access to the connectors from the front. A dimMA compact version is also available.
