Worldwide - This year sees Philips Strand Lighting celebrate its 100th birthday with festivities at PLASA London this October, including a cocktail hour at the special Strand Lighting bar on the Philips Entertainment stand.

"All are welcome to enjoy exclusive celebratory cocktails and nibbles every day at 5pm, alongside some very special VIP guests. So make sure to join in raising a glass or two to a century of lighting innovation!"

It's undeniable that Philips Strand Lighting's 100-year milestone is a momentous occasion as since inception in 1914, Strand Lighting and its product family has continuously evolved, playing a significant role in shaping the century's entertainment lighting and lighting control technology landscape.

The company's founders, Arthur Earnshaw and Philip Sheridan, were two private electricians who unwittingly established themselves as the forefathers of the modern entertainment lighting industry. Between them they delivered a number of innovations in lighting and system design that have in turn inspired many of the products being manufactured by other businesses today.

After all, it was Strand Lighting's innovation that moved lighting control technology from complex on-stage mechanical devices to remote control operation, adding an essential flexibility to the lighting designer's role.

In the last century Strand Lighting has been responsible for significant developments in the lighting systems of prestigious venues globally and has brought new creative potential to the lighting designer's artistic palette year on year. This only goes to show the incredible impact that a century of Strand has had on the theatre lighting design industry, and arts culture in general.

Today Strand Lighting and its sister companies continue to provide the industry with a broad spectrum of clever, robust and feature rich lighting control systems and software, alongside dimming technology and a wide-ranging scope of high-performance luminaires, including conventional source fixtures and LEDs.

PLASA London 2014 will be taking place at the ExCeL exhibition centre between the 5 and 8 of October, with Philips Entertainment on stand L80.
