UAE - Al Laith Events Services - Dubai's new specialist event staging and roofing company - supplied a 25m, three-bay Space Roof, complete with full stage decking system and two 12mhigh goalposts flanking the stage for Il Divo's concert at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

It is the first time that the Space Roof design from Serious Stages and goalposts have been used in combination together in the UAE.

Al Laith Events Services was again working for Flash Events, a regular Abu Dhabi based client. Al Laith's project manager was Jacques Smalberger, and he and his crew - numbering of up to 80 people - worked closely with site manager Jean-Carl Saliba, and Flash Events production manager Lee Charteris.

Germany/UK - Unleashing their third studio album, Humanoid, Germany's biggest rock band, Tokio Hotel, is currently embarked on a mammoth tour visiting over 30 cities throughout Europe. Touring with them, under the guidance of production manager Phil Broad, is a set built by UK-based Brilliant Stages.

As one of Germany's most successful bands, with credits including Germany's first Moonman, MTV VMA for Best New Artist and EMAs in both 2008 and 2009, the Welcome to the Humanoid City tour is the biggest show this multi-award winning band has ever produced.

Brilliant Stages took the set designed by Misty Buckley and turned it into a full on touring show.

UK - AC-ET's Rigging division has supplied a quantity of Litec QL52A truss to production services company Peak Hire for various events, including the spectacular pantomime production of Peter Pan at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury. Starring Ade Edmonson as Captain Hook, the production featured "dazzling sets and fabulous musical numbers".

Peter Pan was held in the Marlowe Theatre Arena, a temporary venue, in use until the original theatre re-opens in 2011 as a much larger concern with a new programme of world-class shows. Peak Hire was approached by Theatre Tent to provide a rigging solution for the lighting and sound systems, as well as a track for flying Peter and Wendy above the audience.

LS-Live was commissioned by set building company, Perry Scenic, to design and build a variety of elements for Lady Gaga's Monster Ball tour in support of the artist's second studio album, The Fame Monster. LS-Live deployed their custom design group to ensure the project was successfully delivered within the three-week deadline.

UK Draping specialists Cover It Up was engaged by production company Partytechture to diligently black out 40 large windows at Oxford's Sheldonian Theatre, a Grade 1 Listed Building that was utilised to stage one element of the 2010 SKOLL World Summit event.

The Sheldonian was built in 1664-68 for the University of Oxford, based on a design by Sir Christopher Wren. It is acknowledged as significantly important in terms of the classical influence it had upon other Oxford buildings, and as well as being a functional space for the University, it's also used for music recitals and other events and is available for private hires.

Satisfying Statistics - Music sales in the UK have grown for the first time in six years, according to music industry body the British Phonographic Institute (BPI). Revenue increased by 1.4%, bringing the total income for 2009 to £928.8m. Download sales provided the shot in the arm, rising by more than 50% to earn £154m, compared with £101.5m in 2008. "It's encouraging to see industry revenues stabilise and even show modest growth in 2009," said BPI chief executive Geoff Taylor. But he warned the market was still "constrained by competition from illegal downloads".

Sales of CD albums continued to fall in 2009, dropping by 6.1%. Digital income now represents over 20% of overall recorded music revenues, taking into account earnings from online downloads alongside mobile, subscriptions and advertising-supported services. An unprecedented 4.22 m

KORA Awards is the manifestation of an all-encompassing vision for Africa of the executive producer for the event, Ernest Adjovi and his dedication to overcoming the logistical demands of bringing a show of this scale to Burkina Faso.

It was the first time that the colourful K event had been staged outside South Africa. The show was directed for TV by Clive Morris and distributed via CFI (Canal France International) across Africa, France and parts of the US via 100 TV channels, as well as being enjoyed live by 3000 guests. UAE - Abu Dhabi hosted the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championship in the Middle East and the first in the open air - in front of 11,000 fans, a highly charged atmosphere and beneath a monster steel roof structure specially designed and built for the occasion by Al Laith Events Services.

Al Laith Events Services effectively delivered the entire stadium infrastructure - including all the seating grandstands - that was built to stage the event, juxtaposed with the futuristic backdrop of the new Ferrari World indoor theme park on Yas Island.

Crooks brings more than three decades of industry experience to J. R. Clancy. For the last 17 years, he has worked for a single group of entertainment lighting, dimming and energy management companies. In 1993, he joined Portland-based Entertainment Technology (ET) as their western regional manager and vice president, marketing. ET was acquired by Stamford based ROSCO Laboratories and later sold to a conglomerate called Genlyte. In 2007, Genlyte was acquired by Philips. Thailand - A large Milos ground support system was utilised by Thailand based audio designers and manufacturers, P. Audio, for the high profile launch of the new Red Ant restaurant, a popular new eatery located near Bangkok's busy Suvarnabhumi airport.

The large 20 x 35m (internal stage size) structure was built from Milos's MR3 roofing product which was specially purchased by P. Audio for this occasion.

The total height of the completed structure was 15m, giving an impressive 12.5m of headroom, and a weight loading capacity of 17 tonnes for the hanging of lighting, sound and video production equipment. A full programme of entertainment took place on the stage to celebrate the opening night of Red Ant for the enjoyment of an invited audience.

UK - PLASA Events confirms that PLASA Focus: Leeds 2010 has broken all records over the two days at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. Visitor attendance topped 1800 - an increase of nearly 30% on last year's launch event. South Africa - For the third year running, Gearhouse South Africa supplied full technical production, site infrastructure and a series of solutions to stage the 2010 Mighty Man Conference, at Greytown outside Durban.

Gearhouse was again working for The Shalom Trust, and in close collaboration with its technical co-ordinator, Nik Fairclough of Northwind Recording who also mixed the FOH sound.

Gearhouse's project manager was Eyal Yehezkely. He oversaw a crew of 28, spanning multiple technical disciplines - audio, AV and screens, power, lighting and staging. The project management included internal and on site logistics, surveying and GPS mapping of the site, detailed layouts, design of the crowd seating, positioning of delay towers and structures and producing comprehensive site plans.
