Taking place in Munich, at the beautiful Prinzregententheater, Showlight 2005 will look forward to tomorrow's technology, to the ideas and equipment that will take lighting design into the next decade. The show will also look back at what has been achieved in the worlds of theatre and television, film, concert and architectural lighting design. A major part of the Showlight show is devoted to presentations, of 15 to 45 minutes, by people working within the lighting industry. The organizers are now inviting ideas for papers from lighting designers and directors, scenographers and equipment manufacturers - although sales pitches are not welcome!
Six main topics have been chosen for broad interpretation, including It's my design, how does it work?; Unusual and Special Rigs; and Light Sources, which will look at new light sources, optical design and construction techniques. Potential speakers should also know that they do not just give their paper and depart - at the heart of every Showlight is the opportunity for delegates and speakers to meet and mingle during lengthy coffee and lunch breaks, as well as during the evening and social events which make Showlight so special.
Showlight is made possible by generous sponsorship and this time ETC has provided generous "seed" money to ensure the mounting of Showlight 2005. Further industry support comes in the form of a limited number of small trade stands. Showlight 2005 also benefits enormously from the very generous patronage of the Prinzregententheater and the Bayerische Theaterakademie, the venue having been made available thanks to the enthusiasm of academy students who attended the previous Showlight event.
Showlight 2005 takes place in Munich, 21-24 May 2005. If you would like to make a contribution in the form of a paper, email the address below before the end of April 2004. (Sarah Rushton-Read)
