World - This Saturday (28 March) at 8.30pm local time, the world is being encouraged to act with their light switches to combat climate change. Organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the worldwide blackout is described as an election between Earth and global warming. "For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote - Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming," says the Earth Hour website.

WWF are attempting to reach a target of 1 billion "votes for Earth", which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

Two grandMA full-size, one as a back-up, and six MA NSPs, (Network Signal Processor) including two spares, form the heart of the lighting control for a rig that comprises 80 Clay Paky Alpha Beam 300s, 64 Vari*Lite VL 3000 spots, eight VL3500 washes as well as Coemar, Syncrolite and Martin fixtures. UK/Germany - 2009 sees the 30th year since the launch of Trace Elliot as a brand, in Essex, UK. To commemorate this a special promotional video has been commissioned.

It was 1979 when the first Trace Elliot amplifiers became available and these quickly revolutionised the way the industry perceived bass amplification. Coincidentally it is also 20 years since this was repeated for acoustic players with the launch of Trace Acoustic in 1989.

With both ranges again generating much interest, these milestones are being celebrated with the imminent release of an entertaining and insightful video. This refers to the continuity of the origin of the brand's design and also reveals some of the reasons that make these brands different.

The five and a half minute video will be officially released on the first day of the 2009 Frankfurt Musikmesse, 1 Aprilt, and will be freely available in

UK - Tower Productions has recently added a number of machines to its highly-spec'd generator stock based in Edinburgh. The new machines are all FG Wilson XD series with super-hushed canopies and long-running fuel tanks, ideal for event work.

New control panels are being fitted to allow on-board; AMF, sequencing and synchronised load-sharing, on all machines from 60kva - 275kva. This negates the need for any separate remote AMF/Synch panels and makes for very quick and very simple deployment on site, says the company.

The new machines complement the existing stock of similarly specified machines all of which have on-board synch panels and have proved popular in the event power market, particularly where 100% redundancy is required for power-critical applications.

UK - A.C. Audio has recently supplied a sound and control system to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for their latest outdoor display, the Spectacular Dancing Water Show. The new high energy, interactive water display is situated at the heart of the beach complex, providing various theatrical showers of shooting fountains over 100ft high. It is choreographed to a wide repertoire of music including classical, pop and even rugby anthems.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach approached A.C. to specify and supply a powerful, durable sound system for the water show. The system needed to be able to withstand both the wet environment and high ambient noise levels emanating from the surrounding restaurant district. Knowing KV2 Audio had previously manufactured loudspeakers to such high levels of durability, A.C. Audio sales manager Peter Butler turned to KV2 with the brief.

UK - Wonderworks has created a ghostly hologram within the new £1m permanent exhibition, Uncovering Origins, at Charles Darwin's Down House In Kent. Forming part of the bicentennial celebrations of the great scientist's birth, it was created in conjunction with Paradigm AV.

Wonderworks was contracted by design consultancy, Designmap, who created the exhibition for English Heritage. The Darwin hologram is set in faithful recreation of his cabin on the Beagle. MDM Props (Designmap's build partner on the project) realised the cabin interior. Having partnered Wonderworks many times in the past, Paradigm AV was brought in to work on the elaborate fabrication.

It was at Down House that Darwin lived with his devoted family for 40 years, and it was here that he researched and wrote his most famous and seminal work, On the Origin of Species.

UK -The Association of British Theatre Technician's ABTT Theatre Show reports that its new on-line pre-registration system has revealed that figures are up by 15% compared to the same time last year.

Opting to offer an exclusively on-line registration service for the first time, the organisers are highlighting their commitment to the show's on-going investment, despite these 'credit crunch' times.

Providing quick and streamlined registration on the day, pre-registered visitors will simply be able to scan their bar-coded email confirmation at designated 'badge stations' to receive their pass, cutting down on queuing time.

The QRS system being used will also reduce the show's carbon footprint. Without the need to print flyers and visitor promotional literature, the show will save a number of trees by switching to on-line registration.

The ABTT Theatre Show is looking forward

UK - Entertainment lighting supplier White Light has announced the release of the White Light Green Guide, available now from the company's website.

Intended as a starter guide for those wanting to make their work in lighting shows have as little impact on the environment as possible, the Green Guide offers suggestions for each phase of the process of show lighting, from initial meetings and planning through rig design, set-up and focus, show running, touring and final load-out.

"Many of the suggestions in our Green Guide are largely common sense," comments White Light's managing director, Bryan Raven, "but it's often the obvious things that get overlooked when it comes to putting a show together, particularly in the final hectic days of tech when the old mantra of 'the show must go on' tends to win out over everything else. Czech Republic - The twelfth edition of the Prague Quadrennial (PQ) will take place in June 2011. The PQ 2011 organisers hope to attract a large number of performance disciplines from theatre and visual arts. In 2007 almost 30.000 visitors and 5.000 active participants visited the PQ 07.

After more than 40 years of existence, the Prague Quadrennial International Exhibition of Scenography and Theatre Architecture is changing its name to the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, with the goal of breaking down the often imaginary differences between the performance fields. "In the next edition we want to include a wider range of disciplines and genres connected to performance design and to observe current trends in contemporary performance," explains Sodja Lotker, artistic director of the PQ. This is also the reason for widening the international team of cur

UK - There is a long historical association between the theatre and education. Most schools stage plays and have some kind of auditorium. Then there are the colleges and institutions that specialise in training the next generation of actors and theatre technicians.

Sound and lighting equipment will feature heavily at The ABTT Theatre Show, but also on show is a whole range of products and services - from staging to floors to rigging and electro-mechanical hoists - that are as important in creating a theatre or performance space as loudspeakers and lights.

Among this year's exhibitors is Centre Stage Engineering, which has supplied and installed
