UK - The doors for the ABTT Theatre Show at the Royal Horticultural Halls do not open until 16 June but already the organisers are facing the happy problem of ensuring there is enough space for new exhibitors as regulars book bigger stands and commit to additional sponsorship opportunities at the show, say the organisers.

The exhibition provides a forum for theatre technology and services. Last year it bucked the downturn caused by the financial crisis and presented the broadest range of products and companies in its 32-year history.

The Show also provides a platform for airing the big issues in the theatre and live performance sectors. Among the most challenging right now is the Digital Dividend Review and re-allocation of frequency spectrum following the switchover from analogue to digital television.

Italy - Following the recent announcement by the organisers of Italy's Show-Way exhibition that their event would be postponed until 2011, rival Italian event SIB International has also announced the cancellation of its 2010 dates and moves to 2011, while calling for unity in the Italian marketplace.

Once the major international trade exhibition for the entertainment technology industry, SIB saw the emergence of the Show-Way exhibition in 2007 following a split in the trade association supporting the event. APIAS, the Italian lighting and sound association, put its support behind the new Show-Way exhibition which took place in Bergamo in 2008, while a new trade association, TEN (Technology & Entertainment Design) formed by a splinter group of former APIAS members committed its support to SIB.

Show-Way, which was due for its second event this month, announced its postponement i

"Technologies covered included DALI & DMX, RDM & Art-Net, Colour-Tramp and Interfacing solutions. DALI is a relatively new protocol and there are a lot of technical complications surrounding it as people get to grips with how it works. Our Technical Focus brochure gives more information about DALI and how to avoid common pitfalls when using it, and our customers say the brochure has already proved a useful tool.

UK - Entertainment lighting supplier White Light welcomed the new year by allowing lighting designers and technicians to explore some of the new lighting technology which will shape the way they work this year and in the coming years in a friendly, informal New Technology Showcase.

The mid-January event presented the equipment in the real theatre setting of the Central School of Speech and Drama's Embassy Theatre. At different times of the afternoon, visitors were able to play 'hands on' with the products, to watch the products in action in mini-shows designed and programmed by students on Central's lighting courses, and to participate in feature-by-feature run-throughs of each product with the ability to ask to see specific actions (slow fades, colour changes), or combinations of products compared side by side.
