"I think it was probably our best PLASA to date in terms of positive energy, quality of visitors and interest shown in the new products," says MD Josef Valchar. "This really confirms that our understanding of current market demands and our R&D is going in the right direction."

UK - ETC has reported a positive response to its new marketing theme, Evolving Light, which was launched at this year's PLASA Show. Two new products were seen on the stand: the Source Four HID Zoom eX outdoor luminaire; and Selador Pearl, the latest addition to the Selador range of LED fixtures.

The Zoom eX, which is set to ship in the first quarter of 2011, is IP65 rated for exterior lighting use and is designed for gobo/pattern projection and tight shutter cuts on specific structures or architectural details. The forward portion of the housing removes completely for beam sizing, focus, gobo insertion and shutter adjustments, while the removable housing is designed to hang conveniently on the yoke, freeing both hands for focus.

UK / France - Robert Juliat's new Aledin LED theatrical zoom profile spot was recognised with an Innovation Award from the judges at PLASA 2010. Aledin, the world's first LED generic profile, was created to fill the gap in the market for a high output, low wattage LED alternative to conventional tungsten and discharge profile fixtures, the company says.

UK - The first ever PLASA International Rigging Conference for the event and entertainment rigging industry has proved a major success with delegates and speakers alike.

Taking place last month at Earls Court Conference Centre, alongside PLASA 2010, the event brought together over 200 delegates from as far afield as South Africa, North America and Australasia to discuss a range of issues and to share experiences.

The two full-on days of discussion were opened by Unusual Rigging's Alan Jacobi LVO, an industry icon who engaged delegates with a fascinating history of the rigging industry across the past five decades. The back-to-back programme of sessions and interactive debates which followed were well received by the capacity audience.

USA/Italy - Clay Paky has reported its most successful LDI in 23 years of exhibiting at the international showtech event . The show also confirmed Clay Paky's reputation for innovation with a win for its latest beam light Sharpy in the category Best Debuting Product.

The Sharpy, just one of several new products launched in the US, impressed both judges and visitors with its parallel, zero-degree beam of light. The breakthrough concept produces a massive, stadium-sized beam from a miniature package weighing just 16kg.

There was a festival feel across Madrid, with MTV hosting a number of events during the week. This culminated in the Outdoor Broadcast Show at the Puerto de Alcala, where a mammoth stage was built in front of the landmark, in the middle of a roundabout. A complex security plan was agreed with the National and Municipal police, whereby a series of road closures and pedestrian control points created an audience area of up to 50,000 people. Saturday 6 November was MTV Spain day with a line-up of top Spanish pop acts, whilst the Sunday delivered a visually spectacular event featuring Katy Perry, 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park.

UK - David Atkinson Lighting Design (DALD) recently completed the lighting design for Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballets Russes exhibition at the V&A, London.

This major exhibition explores the world of the influential artistic director and impresario Serge Diaghilev and one of the most exciting dance company of the 20th century, the Ballets Russes. The exhibition features 300 objects including original costumes, set designs, scores, props, posters and film clips and celebrates Diaghilev's enduring influence on art and design.

Exhibition designers Tim Hatley and Drinkall Dean briefed DALD that the lighting was to create a sensitive yet dynamic theatrical approach to the exhibition.
