Czech Republic - Robe Show Lighting has introduced the feature-packed ColorSpot 2500E AT - its most powerful moving light fixture to date. Applications will include large venues, concerts and stadiums, outdoor shows, corporate and special events and anywhere a versatile big output lightsource is required, including for searchlight effects, say the company.

The fixture is robustly constructed and features a new handle design. It's designed to withstand both the rigours of the road and the challenges of different weather and operating conditions. The CS 2500E AT uses an MSR Gold 1200 SA/SE FastFit lamp with an 1400W electronic ballast, while its optical system consists of a high luminous efficiency parabolic glass reflector, focus lens and multi-step zoom lens with a 10-30° beam angle. USA / Europe - Color Kinetics reports that its product lines now comply with the RoHS environmental directive, in accordance with the 1 July, 2006 deadline. RoHS calls for the restriction of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment sold into the European market.

By successfully completing the measures required for compliance, Color Kinetics will also be prepared to meet similar regulations pending worldwide, including RoHS adoption by Australia, Canada, Korea and Taiwan.

UK - White Light is supplying the lighting equipment to the first West End revival of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit musical Evita, which opened at the Adelphi Theatre on 24 June.

Directed by Michael Grandage, designed by Christopher Oram and with choreography by Rob Ashford - the team behind the hit production of Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre, Evita is being lit by two-time Olivier Award winner Paule Constable.

Constable's design includes a diverse range of lighting equipment, much of it available from White Light's extensive hire stock - but with one particular light created by White Light specifically for the production. Qatar - In February of this year, Canadian rock star Bryan Adams brought his Room Service tour to Doha, the capital of Qatar. The concert had been organized as part of a charity campaign, named 'Reach Out to Asia', promoted by the daughter of the Emirate to raise money for the victims of the tsunami. The show at the stadium at Doha, Al Sadd, lasted over 90 minutes and the meeting on the stage between Adams and the young Iraqi star Bilal was particularly striking.

USA / UK - High End Systems (HES) of Austin, Texas and Wynne Willson Gottelier (WWG) UK have formed an agreement on the licensing of certain WWG digital lighting technologies patents.

Richard Belliveau, chief technology officer for HES, says: "WWG is a truly innovative source of inventive creativity in the lighting industry. The relationship between WWG and HES has been instrumental in the development of HES digital lighting products. We are pleased to form the licensing agreement with WWG."

Peter Wynne Willson of WWG says: "The hard and soft engineering of the HES digital products is exemplary. Richard Belliveau and his team have made a fabulous job of bringing our Catalyst project to market. WWG has learned much from HES en route to concluding this licensing agreement."

Canada - The town of Castlegar in Western Canada is home to about 7200 people. Last month, the Element Club, Bar and Grill - a 600 capacity club and the third largest licensed establishment in British Columbia - opened in the town. Martin dealer Skaha Sound of Penticton, British Columbia supplied a Martin lighting package along with LED lighting and conventional luminaires for the cub. Lighting design was handled jointly by cousins Florio and Fred Vassilakakis, who enlisted other family help as well. Florio comments: "The actual physical design of the club was done by my father, Nick, with collaboration from me, my cousin Fred and my brother George. My uncle John also helped out. It's a family company - what can I say."

UK - XL Video has invested in a wide range of new video and AV equipment to help meet its busy summer touring and business events schedule. This includes six brand new Barco B10 mobile LED trucks - each offering 10sq.m of high-resolution, rotating LED screen surface. It debuted at the Honda Hospitality area at the British Grand Prix, Silverstone, and they will be used at a host of festivals and outdoor events throughout the summer.

XL has also bought a fleet of the new High Definition Barco FLM 20 water-cooled 18,000 ANSI lumen projectors for assorted tours. XL's hectic touring and event summer schedule includes work with Foo Fighters, The Who, Roger Waters and Robbie Williams' Close Encounters tour.

UK/Europe - Guitar hero Joe Satriani was illuminated by lighting equipment supplied by Bandit Lites on his recent sold-out tour.

It is LD Ernesto Corti's first tour with the legendary artist. The UK and European section is the second leg of a tour that kicked off in the US in April. It was also the first time that Corti has worked with Bandit, and he is extremely pleased with the results. The account was handled for Bandit by Lester Cobrin who has worked with Joe Satriani's production management team since 1997.

Corti received some brief directions from Satriani's manager Mick Brigden at the start of the tour, and then the rest of the lighting and aesthetics were left up to him. The most important element is, of course, Satriani and his guitar, so the design and operation are kept simple, straightforward and stark.

UK - The Society of Television Lighting Directors (STLD) is holding a Generic Lighting Shootout and Sponsors Exhibition at Pinewood Studios on Saturday 5 August 2006 from 11.00 - 17.30. The event will be held in TV One, one of a pair of TV studios at Pinewood which are the home to programmes such as The Weakest Link, Test the Nation and My Family.

The event will focus on comparing the latest profile spots, fresnels, softlights, cyc lights and followspots side-by-side in a TV studio environment. UK - Forge Europa has developed a number of standard assemblies using high power LEDs (1W) known as aLED. These aLEDs consist of a high-power LED mounted onto a thermally optimised substrate complete with a connector or solder pads. This takes the headaches of thermal design away from the luminaire manufacturer and gives them an easy to use sub-assembly. When multiple units are combined into one fitting Forge Europa says it can also measure the junction temperature of the LEDs to verify that the design is working within its recommended parameters.

UK - Thanks to good teamwork and preparation, lighting co-designers Andrew Bridge and Alistair Grant recently brought Broadway classic Show Boat to the Royal Albert Hall in just four days.

Staged over 15 days in June, Show Boat was the first musical ever to be performed at the Royal Albert Hall and the duo faced a very tight timescale as Grant reveals: "The challenge was to create a musical in four days from fit-up to public performance, compared to the usual four to six weeks for a West End production."

To compound matters co-designer Andrew Bridge's time was limited - he was involved with re-creating The Phantom of the Opera in Las Vegas. It was this constraint which helped shape the decision to make it a co-design with the pair sharing equal billing.

UK - XL Video is supplying three dual output Catalyst digital media servers, a Catalyst DL1 moving head projector, a Barco SLM R12+ and six Sanyo PLC XP56i projectors for the much heralded Sam Buntrock revival of Sondheim's Sunday In The Park With George.

The show has just transferred to the Wyndham's Theatre in London's West End after a popular opening run at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

Visual designer Tim Bird's animated versions of (George) Suerat's pointilliste technique are a vital element of the show and bring a whole new 21st century dimension to the stage. USA - The Great American Country Network (GAC) again produced a 4 of July Television spectacular on the banks of the scenic Tennessee River in Nashville and enlisted the services of Bandit Lites to make the event the shining star of the year in Nashville. Butch Spyridon from the City of Nashville put together a world-class staff to produce the event. The staff included Dennis Freeman and Chuck Young as production managers and Mike Frogge as lighting designer. Console operators were John Lucksinger and Larry Bostser.

The Nashville Symphony Orchestra was accompanied by country music legend Ronnie Milsap, current country superstar Josh Turner, and one of the newest sensations on the scene Danielle Peck. UK - ETC is organising a series of training courses for its Congo lighting control console in London at the end of July and throughout August. The basic course (running on 25 July, and 2, 16 and 23 August) covers Congo's major functions, including navigation and programming of the console. The advanced course (26 July, and 3, 17 and 24 August) features an overview of the soon-to-be-released version 4.2 software, including channel layouts, editing dynamic effects, new track editing, using multiple sequence lists and much more. Training is hands-on, with no more than two people per console.

The courses will be held at ETC's new demo room at the company's North Acton facility (which also gives attendees the chance to see ETC's amazing themed reception area) and cost £25 per person per day, including lunch.

UK - Hawthorn has worked on Walk the Walk's London MoonWalk for the fifth year running. This year, as well as supplying the London Moonwalk held in Hyde Park, Hawthorn is supplying both The MoonWalk Edinburgh and The Sunwalk Bristol.

For the London Moonwalk, Hawthorn provided lighting, staging, rigging and power distribution for the whole site, plus a sound system for the interior of De Boer's pink 8,500.00sq.m marquee, which was large enough to host over 15,000 bra-clad walkers for a pre-marathon pasta party.

Hawthorn's rigging specialists installed Prolyte ground support truss which supported over thirty 6m long banners, as well as PSL's LED videowalls. "We are thrilled to be working on the Edinburgh and Bristol events and look forward to continuing our relationship with Walk the Walk over the coming years," said Hawthorn's MD, Martin Hawthorn.

Greece - The 2006 Eurovision Song Contest, held in the O.A.K.A. hall in Athens, was an outstanding event once again. German company Procon supplied the lighting system, which included about 500 moving lights as well as a number of Barco video and Schnickschnack LED systems. The video and LED systems were built into motorized movable staircases on the stage. In total, 44 DMX lines were used, divided into four lighting worlds: moving lights, LED, white light and video/media server.

The complete lighting control was via MA Lighting's grandMA system - four grandMA full-size and a grandMA light, plus backup and 22 NSPs (network signal processors). A fibre-optic network with four HP switches was installed to maximise the stability of the lighting control technology network, say MA Lighting.
