USA - Zaxcom has introduced a new plug-on recording transmitter. The TRX700 is designed for quick and easy integration with the shotgun-type microphones typically used in boom-pole applications. The TRX700 records up to 12 hours of timecode-referenced audio on a removable miniSD card, a patent-pending feature that provides an automatic back-up of the system's RF transmission, says the company.

"The TRX700 provides much of the functionality of our popular TRX900 series of digital wireless microphone transceivers, but with the ease-of-use of a plug-on system designed specifically to address the needs of boom-pole operators," said Glenn Sanders, president of Zaxcom. "We're very excited to introduce this product as a means for quickly integrating audio recording and transmitting capabilities into microphone systems that are already owned and used."

Spain - The Ti Line from Vieta is a new, compact, remote-controllable amplifier system, designed for low to medium power use in fixed installations. The small, modular amplifier blocks are to DIN rail size and fixing standards, the standard for mains wiring in Europe, compatible with a range of off-the-shelf accessories such as waterproofing and fire-safety covers, which can be sourced from any electrical trade wholesalers. The Ti Line Blocks simply click into place on the DIN rail.

The DIN standard allows the amplifiers to be fitted where all the other electrical mains hardware lives - fuse boxes etc - saving valuable space in smaller shops and bars. Alternatively, the Blocks can be mounted locally throughout larger multiple speaker installations, close to the speakers and thus saving long cable runs and signal losses.

EQ and Level can be set on the blocks themselves or contr

UK - Ko Ko's in Leamington Spa, which boasts a large music bar, restaurant, nightclub and a roof terrace bar, has invested heavily in both décor and entertainment, appointing PSL to handle the entertainment lighting and sound design and installation throughout.

Peter Smith of PSL reports, "The management not only started with high ideals, but as opportunities were realised, these expanded the specification and flexibility required as the project developed. This made for an interesting installation and we had to be fast to react as requirements increased with tight deadlines. This in turn placed high demands on my suppliers so I was pleased I had chosen Community for the core loudspeaker systems; their range could meet any requirement and their distributor, CUK Audio, were well up to meeting our needs."

USA - One of the Discovery Channel's most popular and entertaining shows, Mythbusters features five special effects and science experts taking turns debunking (and sometimes proving) common and, often, silly urban legends. Based in San Francisco, the show has, for several previous episodes turned to the audio experts at Berkeley-based Meyer Sound, just across San Francisco Bay, for help in researching sound-related myths. The resulting partnership has produced fascinating, if sometimes predictable, results.

Previous shows involving Meyer Sound have explored myths such as the assertion that a duck's quack does not echo (debunked) and whether a human voice can shatter glass (confirmed). When the programme makers set out to apply their zany method to one more myth requiring sound expertise, they again turned to Meyer. "This story started with the myth that deceased Cali

Germany - Edirol's new VC converters are among the first products to offer real-time encoding and bi-directional conversion between any analogue, HDV/DV or SDI source, says the company. There are two new models in the range, the VC-200HD and the VC-300HD.

With the two-way signal encoding a single 200 or 300HD unit offers a complete signal flow solution. Both units also include built-in audio delay so any latency in the video signal can be easily compensated for. Audio delay adjustments can be made in millisecond or frame increments for lip/audio sync with the video source. The models also feature in/out sync terminals allowing GEN lock with external devices.

Each unit can also automatically detect the input signal format and, with multiple active outputs, it is possible to record the source signal from different outputs simultaneously. The VC-300HD adds an SDI input and output

UK This year's lecture, which takes place at the Concert Artistes Association, London WC2 on 16 May at 4.30 pm, will be taking the form of a discussion about the important issue of The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2006, which has introduced lower permitted sound, levels in the work place. The music and entertainment sectors have until April 2008 to comply.

Noise induced hearing loss is often cumulative and not immediately obvious. Any threat to hearing has to be taken seriously as the effects of overexposure to noise are irreversible. The HSE wants noise output reduced to 80 dB(A) first action level and 85 dB(A) second action level. The problem for the theatre and music industry is that "noise" is our living,

France - The operators of Paris concert club Le Nouveau Casino recently determined that they would need to improve their outdated sound system. The existing system had served them well over the years, but it was much too harsh and lacked distinction and coherence. A shootout between five leading audio companies was arranged. Audiolite based in Landernau, best know for doing sound production for the massive yearly Les Vieilles Charrues music festival, went to the shootout bringing in Adamson's SpekTrix True Line Source Technology.

Audiolite won the shootout and the final contract. The system for the venue was designed by DV2's Julien Poirot using Adamson's Shooter software. The main arrays are comprised of one SpekTrix 5-degree enclosure and three SpekTrix Wave 15-degree enclosures per side, providing coverage for the length of the club, which sits at about 18m (59ft), wit

South Korea - Avix Tech, a Seoul-based distribution and sound reinforcement company recently installed systems in two different South Korean projects - the newly refurbished Hannuri Art Hall in Suwon City's Jangan Ju community centre, and the Chuncheon Art Hall located in the recently renovated Chuncheon Culture and Arts Centre in the province of Gangwon. Eric Han, manager of Avix Tech's system design and technical support department, cites the self-powered nature of the Meyer Sound systems as key in making them the best solution. "The speakers and onboard amplifiers are perfectly matched, eliminating any loss of quality fr

Greece - Rick Pope, Jamiroquai's long-time sound engineer, used the Focusrite Saffire to record a one off, record-breaking performance by the band in the front of a plane on a trip to Greece. A specially selected audience mostly comprised of competition-winning Jamiroquai fans witnessed the 'Gig In The Sky' and the band performed half a dozen tracks.

"We had a full band, six musicians and three backing singers," said Pope. "I needed to record the gig and needed something standalone and FireWire because it was all done on batteries as obviously there was no mains in the plane. So I needed something that would power off FireWire from my computer and the Saffire PRO 26i/o was the first thing that came to mind.

"It was simple once it was up and running: stand alone, just hit record, go and that was it. It did everything I wanted it to do and was ideal for the g

"I first met HK Audio and their head of international sales Christian Stumpp a number of years before at the Music Life Show in Birmingham way back in 2000. Since then a strong bond of friendship has grown between us, as well as my bond with the product and the brand.
