UK - FourFourTwo called upon the services of Blitz Vision and its sister company, Charter Broadcast, to support the Football League Awards incorporating the FourFourTwo Top 50 Football League Players ceremony, which took place at Grosvenor House< London, earlier this month.

For the second year running, Blitz Vision provided a range of audio and visual equipment including high specification projectors, all of which complemented the installed rig at the venue. Utilising a wide array of OB kit, a variety of up to eight wireless and cabled cameras, as well as its own support crew, Charter recorded the event live for broadcast to Sky Sports viewers.

Hosted by Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling, the occasion is an annual gala event, which recognises all who contribute to exceptional achievements both on and off the field, including a Fan of the Year award.

Eire - A collaboration between Dublin-based High Resolution Lighting and London based E//T//C UK resulted in the first large format PIGI projections to grace Dublin's world famous Saint Patrick's Festival.

The projections featured the heads of a selection of individuals who received the rare distinction of gaining The Honorary Freedom of the City of Dublin. The images measured 10m wide by 15m high, and were beamed onto the side of the City Hall building in Dame Street, central Dublin, for the five evenings of the Festival.

High Resolution's Peter Canning has pitched the idea of monumental projections to Dublin City Council for some time, and this year festival director Donal Shiels decided to give it the go-ahead. Shiels also suggested the theme of those who have received the Freedom of the City.

CWP is also supplying a Hog iPC for control of the DL.2s, with a D-Tek video switcher. Joseph Denham is the CWP tech/programmer/operator supporting the CWP gear. PRG is supplying a Wholehog 3 console for the main lighting rig. Dexter is using both custom content and stock libraries in the DL.2s.

UK - XL Video is supplying video projection and cameras to the Faithless To All New Arrivals tour, forming an integral element of LD and visual designer Ivan Morandi's provocative live show aesthetics. Morandi has worked with the band for seven years and has always seen lighting and moving images as a potentially symbiotic phenomenon, however this is the first time that Faithless have gone really large on the video.

Germany - Audio video software companies Ableton and Cycling '74 have entered into a strategic partnership. The two will join forces to create new software products for the creative community, leveraging their skills, technologies and combined thirty years of experience.

Singapore - Only once every three years is the annual World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) meeting hosted outside Washington, D.C. In 2006, Singapore was chosen as the venue with about 16,000 delegates attending the meeting.

To accommodate them, 35 meeting rooms were equipped with audio visual equipment and conference microphones - with 14 of these rooms being exclusively equipped with Bosch DCN Next Generation simultaneous interpretation systems for up to nine languages.

The Danish company Teletech was selected as the sub-contractor for supplying the DCN Next Generation interpretation system and worked with the local AV supplier Showtec who installed the AV system.

Finland - Following last week's Bottom Line Design Award, the FogScreen projection screen has been named best nightclub effect 2007 by Club World.

The 19 categories in six fields of the Club World Awards honour every element of a nightclub or lounge, from its design, to its technicians, to its promotion. The winners were determined by a panel of ten industry-veteran, expert judges.

"The nightclub industry has been the fastest growing segment for FogScreen within last 12 months," says CEO Mika Koivula. "Our installations include Harrah's Lake Tahoe, Myst in New York, Long Horn in Louisiana and the Box in Belfast. We expect this growth to continue."

Spain - Barcelona dealer, Media Waves, has been steadily selling the Chromatec Q-Split into the Spanish market. Q-Split, the quad-quad split, combines up to four SDI video sources into one video output, and also allows source and aspect ratio switching. Additionally, it includes video alarm functions. USA - Visitors to the booth of a major pharmaceutical exhibitor at the American College of Cardiology's Scientific Session March 24-27 in New Orleans literally got a glimpse of the future: stunning video images that appeared to rise in three dimensions from the surface of a 40" 3D MultiView display from NewSight Corporation.

NewSight's MultiView displays, now available from PRG Video, allow the viewer to perceive impressive 3D representations spatially, without the need for viewing aids such as 3D glasses. PRG worked with NewSight and Exploria, the video content creator, to adapt the video graphics for best effect in the 3D format. PRG also provided lighting and three Barco R12+ projectors fed by a Grass Valley turbo iDDR Hard Drive for the booth, which was conceptualised by Lou Competielle of Loran Associates.

UK - E//T//C UK supplied widescreen projection for the RBI Achievement Awards event at Grosvenor House, London for producer Tom Perkins and his client, Reed Business International. After delivering a highly successful circular 'in-the-round' projection for Perkins earlier in the year at the same venue, E//T//C was asked to come up with a new video solution for the RBI event.

E//T//C supplied two of their new Christie 25K HD projectors, two Barco R18 projectors and an OnlyView control system for the show. The projectors were positioned side by side on the balcony of the main room at Grosvenor House, their images soft-edged together to form one large super-bright 70ft wide by 18ft deep image in 16:9 format.

UK - Arqiva, a provider of transmission services for broadcasters and end-to-end media solutions for content and channel providers, has acquired 48 Zandar Predator HD8 MultiViewers for use on HD content provision for Championship Football for Sky Sports, Sky HD.

The Predator units provide significant space and cost benefits as well as flexible operation, says Zandar. They are installed inside two UK-based OB trucks, making this one of the largest single HD8 OB projects yet undertaken. The system was integrated by Sony Professional Services.

In each truck, 24 Predator HD8 MultiViewers are installed. There are 10 in the production area, 12 in the video tape recording area and two located in audio. The Predator HD MultiViewers feature native HD input processing to offer true HD quality images and drive high resolution displays up to 1080p.

Mexico - leading Mexican pop group Maná have invested in G-LEC Phantom II for the set of their current world tour. Following the US dates, which began in February and take in such illustrious venues as New York's Madison Square Garden, the band goes on to Puerto Rico, Mexico, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil, finishing in Spain in July.

With less then 24 hours between many of the scheduled venues, the band needed a set that was light and easy to rig and de-rig, and the G-LEC Phantom II large scale LED display system with video capabilities fits the bill. Weighing just 5.5kg per sq.m, it not only saves the band's crew a lot of hard work, but means that the frames can be flown on the set extremely easily.

UK - System integration specialist Broadcast Networks has appointed Tony Simpson to the position of general manager, with immediate effect.

Simpson has extensive experience of the broadcast industry having previously run his own company, Audionics, which handled productions for television, advertising agencies and the audio industry.
