The Netherlands - The Muziektheater in Amsterdam has chosen to replace its analogue, wired intercom infrastructure with a fully digital intercom solution from Clear-Com, including wireless beltpacks and matrix frames.

The Netherlands Opera and Dutch National ballet both create and produce their own operas and ballets which involves a large amount of rehearsal time on stage where clear communications are vital. The Clear-Com FreeSpeak beltpacks provide a reliable, wireless system for Muziektheater stage, lighting, sound, and technical teams.

"Intercoms are the lifeline between the artistic staff and technicians," said Hans-Willem de Haan, head of the sound and video department at Muziektheater. "We have a long-standing relationship with Clear-Com, so when we decided to move to a digital intercom system, we chose the Clear-Com 4000 matrix in combination with the F

UK The Cadogan Hall in Chelsea, south west London, home to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, has taken delivery of a Renkus-Heinz Iconyx digitally steerable array loudspeaker system for its popular crush bar where up to 500 concert-goers enjoy their interval drinks.

Formerly a church, Cadogan Hall was transformed into a modern concert venue in June 2004 and boasts an airy 900-seat auditorium with excellent acoustics and unimpeded sightlines.

One area that was due for an upgrade was the hall's crush bar, an approximately square, low-ceilinged and highly reflective room where the buzz of the interval drinks crowd made voice announcements calling people back to their seats inaudible in many areas. The room is also let out for other functions such as book launches, where again the requirement is largely for speech reinforcement.

UK - Following discussions between PLASA Events and A.C. Lighting, an agreement has been reached that will see A.C. Lighting sell its A.C. Lighting North Trade Show to PLASA Events.

The agreement reflects the intention of both organisations to work together to ensure the entertainment, event and production industries in the north have a single industry-led event that serves their needs.

A.C. Lighting, a long-standing member of PLASA, started their event in 1999 and quickly established it in the industry calendar, developing it further in recent years to provide a strong focus for the region.

A.C. North 2008 will be the last trade show organised under that name by A.C. Lighting. Immediately after its close, PLASA Events will take over the management and ownership of the event and will look to build on the regional platform established by A.C.

The move fits the strategic aim

UK - In the world of high-fashion retail, Abercrombie & Fitch has remained a frontrunner with its popular, youthful brand of casual apparel. When the successful retail and catalogue operation decided to create a new class of flagship stores, they opted for Meyer Sound systems.

Each of the three locations selected for the new stores - on New York's Fifth Avenue, at Los Angeles' The Grove shopping centre, and in London's Mayfair - has been designed for maximum audio and visual impact. "The vision for these stores was to design a retail environment that is as much about fashion as it is entertainment," says David Schwartz, Abercrombie & Fitch's director of audio/video technology. "We wanted to design an audio system that could deliver the impact of a full-blown theatre experience."

For the London location, Schwartz designed a distributed system that includes 5

UK - Projected Image Digital (PID) has supplied, installed programmed and commissioned a stunning live video artwork in the atrium of Edinburgh College of Art's Evolution House building. The customised system comprises four Catalyst DL1 moving head projectors, two special Catalyst digital media servers and a Pharos LPC2 DMX controller.

Originally constructed as multipurpose offices, the building was recently acquired by the College and now houses its main library, several art studios and administration.

New York-based architect/designer Shashi Caan of the Shashi Caan Collective - and a former ECA graduate - was asked to design an interactive public artwork for the new building that would create a special ambience and imbibe the space with meaning.

Utilising different elements of projected art - stills, video and animations - created by the students, offered the opportunity f

USA - A revamped sound exhibit of the Detroit Science Center has seen the installation of Chauvet COLORtubes EQ by DJS Commercial. The LED tubes offer the possibility of mounting a real-time sound frequency visualiser. As a result, visitors in the experimental room view and show off the sound they create. Each tube can be addressed to respond to a different frequency, from bass to treble, in the pulsating manner of a graphic equaliser on a stereo. DJS Commercial hung 28 of them horizontally encased in a window, so that they can be seen flashing from outside the Jam Room, throughout the centre.

Next, designers turned their attention to the room itself. Exhibit facilities manager Ed Gorczyk wanted to give it a "high tech" feel. The 15sq.ft room was set up like a Saturday Night Live stage of the Seventies, with a huge, slowly whirling fan set into the wall behind m

UK - After mixing Van Morrison for two consecutive years at the Montreux Jazz Festival on the house Digidesign Venue system, John Willis now has a system of his own.

In fact Production House, the Belfast-based company set up back in 1995, had already made the decision to purchase by the time the sound engineer arrived at this year's event on Lake Geneva - for which Digidesign were again a major sponsor. Placing an order with Digidesign resellers, Marquee Audio, he admits "I'd had my heart set on it."

The order included a complete Venue D Show System with Sidecar extender and FOH, Stage Rack, DSP and HDx cards. At the same time Production House purchased a second digital multicore system.

The company has been buying from Marquee Audio since its inception - commencing with an L'Acoustics dV-DOSC rig. "While we may not be their biggest customer we have always enj

UK - Harman Pro UK confirms the completion of its multi-million-pound involvement in the design and implementation of the extensive audio systems at the O2, the new East London venue and entertainment complex built by America's Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) within the canopy of the former Millennium Dome.

The site includes a 20,000-seater stadium, the O2 Arena (which is being used for large-scale live concerts such as this Autumn's run of Prince dates, and will also be hosting Olympic sports in a few years), an 11-screen multiplex Vue cinema, a smaller live music venue/nightclub known as IndigO2 and an extensive district of restaurants, shops and piazzas connected by indoor streets, called the Waterfront.

In all of these areas, Harman equipment has formed the basis for the audio systems used, and in many areas the engineers at Harman Pro UK have been instrumental in desig

USA - Founded in 1996, LifeChurch.tv has grown to become one of the most influential churches in America. LifeChurch.tv is a dynamic group of almost 20,000 people that gathers each week at 12 different locations across the US (the vision is for 50 locations in five years). Satellite broadcasts enable all of their locations to be connected, thus their motto 'One Church, Multiple Locations'.

"Each location has a full staff and a worship team that is very contemporary, like a rock band," says Phil Rapp, central technical director at LifeChurch.tv. "The teaching is very relevant to every day life and is fed over satellite to each location. Putting it simply, we will do anything short of sin to see people come to know life in Christ."

Currently, LifeChurch.tv owns over 250 intelligent lighting fixtures from five different manufacturers. "With the vision of

Trinidad - The 3,000-seat Trinidad Christian Centre in Petit Valley, Trinidad has installed a Renkus-Heinz self-powered loudspeaker system for its highly production-based worship services, as part of an ongoing programme of investment in its facilities.

The church, one of the Caribbean island's largest houses of worship - hosts eight to 10 services a week in its main hall, where the new system has been installed, while a second smaller hall caters for 1,200 people and further breakout halls serve community events, children's groups and special events.

A very high, curved ceiling characterises the wide, 180° fan-shaped main hall, where system integrator AMR, based in Barataria, Trinidad, began a series of upgrades of the room's house system in 2005. The original system consisted mainly of ceiling loudspeakers, which while providing some sound reinforcement gave neither 'pre

USA - Built in 1914, Chicago's Wrigley Field is one of Major League Baseball's legendary landmarks. Having long ago been designated one of the city's historical landmarks, improvements to the park are carefully evaluated and overseen, not only by the city's historical society, but by fans and the public. The installation of lighting in 1988 to allow for night games was preceded by several decades of controversy. And the field's original scoreboard, with per-inning and pitch scores changed by hand, has been untouched by progress (or pitches) since its construction in 1937.

Not surprisingly, the project to upgrade the park's audio system was also subject to the limitations of historic preservation. "Because of the park's landmark status, any proposed changes have to run through a number of lengthy and complex approval processes," explains Kevin Tucker of Chicago-based Ad

UK - Harman Pro UK reports the completion of a prestigious PA installation at North London live music venue, Koko. The Camden venue has added to its Harman inventory this month, choosing a JBL VerTec line array driven by Crown iTech amplifiers to achieve a comprehensive upgrade of its sound system.

16 JBL VT4888 mid-size line array elements have been installed by Camden based electrical contractors RAG Support, as part of the upgrade of the venue's sound system with a view to provide full, even coverage throughout the venue. To complete the latest Harman package, iTech 4000 and 6000 amplifiers from sister company Crown were also chosen.

Tim Hamper, head sound engineer at Koko, explains the decision: "Buildings of this age are often irregular shapes, which is part of their charm. When it comes to setting up an audio system however, this has its drawbacks as the sound can b

UK - As the largest charity in the UK and the second largest medical research charity in the world, the Wellcome Trust is currently spending around £500 million each year to support biomedical research.

Reinforcing this position has been the recent opening of the Wellcome Collection, a £30 million visitor centre in London's Euston Road which combines three exhibition galleries, the Wellcome Library, a conference centre, public events forum, club, café and bookshop.

Installed by Sarner Ltd, a specialist audio visual systems integrator, Ampetronic induction loops form a vital part of the project, being provided in the main circulation area, conference centre auditorium, forum and three seminar rooms.

With the close proximity of several loop systems, minimising crosstalk between each one was of the utmost priority, so Sarner invited Ampetronic to design low s

UK - The iconic London venue, the Roundhouse in Camden, has chosen to retain Showsec as its crowd management partner. The venue, which earned its place in rock and pop history in the late 1960s, hosting early shows by the likes of Pink Floyd and The Doors, has become a resurgent force in live music since it re-opened in 2006 after a £30.2 million redevelopment.

In the last 12 months it has hosted such prestigious events as the BBC Electrical Proms (which this year features Sir Paul McCartney, the Kaiser Chiefs, David Arnold and Mark Ronson), as well as a regular programme of 80 high profile concerts.

Showsec is to be sole provider of crowd management and backstage security services to all concerts at the venue.

"We are delighted to be renewing our relationship with the Roundhouse," says Showsec's London area manager, Steve Reynolds. "The new contract is

Germany - One of Germany's most impressive new sports and leisure parks can be found in the automotive capital of Stuttgart. Here, the mighty Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadium in NeckarPark, home to VfB Stuttgart FC, has been joined recently by the 15,500-capacity Hans-Martin-Schleyer concert hall, and the Porsche and Carl Benz Arenas - all linked by a giant concourse, with common parking facilities.
