UK - PLASA (the Professional Lighting and Sound Association) has outlined its current position in the wake of various recent changes, and asked for Members' feedback on its next steps as it moves forward into a new phase of its existence.

Speaking at a meeting for PLASA Members held during the PLASA Show, John Simpson, PLASA Governing Body chairman and chairman of the White Light Group of companies, said, "Without doubt our major issue this year has been that of diminishing profit, which has led to a critical cash-flow problem for the organisation.

"We have taken action in implementing cost-cutting measures across many parts of PLASA, including reduction in staff, putting the Eastbourne office up for sale and a substantial restructure of the organisation. We have overcome the immediate cash flow problems for 2015, but will be limited in services we can provide during

Sweden - After years of working with other products, Fremlab decided the time was right to invest in a bigger system, both as replacement for some older equipment but also to open new business opportunities and enable them to offer a higher level of quality to their customers.

After taking time to consider all available options Fremlab came back to KV2 with Carl Fredrik Malmgren, Fremlab's CEO, explaining, "One of the main reasons for choosing the VHD System, besides the obvious superior sound quality, was both the reliability of all the other KV2 products that we have been using for almost 10 years now, as well as the extremely easy set up and plug and play capability that VHD offers. All this, accompanied by the flexibility that a point source solution offers for both indoor and outdoor events, related perfectly to the needs of our rental and event business."

Technical production was by Sperlonga-based Remix Sound, under the watchful eye of company boss Riccardo De Simone.

UK - Purpose developed to partner Martin Audio's new CDD range, DX0.5 adds affordable loudspeaker system management to the existing range of DX loudspeaker controllers.

Now, Martin Audio has announced updated software for the DX0.5, with v1.0.3 now available. This latest release adds the ability to create project files with a single file containing up to 24 presets. Subfrantic has been involved with the shows for the past five years, which this year featured singers including Mohamed Abdu, Rabeh Sakr, Majid Al Mohandes, Balquees, Ellisa, Nahwa and Shatha Hassoun. All the performances are backed by an Arabic orchestra.

"It's not an orchestra in the western sense, it features a lot of traditional Arabic instruments," says Subfrantic technical director Sean Murphy. "It's a specialised sound and the setup has to be right. As a company, we spent the past five years developing a unique understanding of these requirements."

Norway - Lindbak AS Gjovik has recently completed the installation of an audio system for the new multi-purpose atrium of Storhamar High School in Hamar, Norway. The large atrium will serve an important function as a meeting point for teachers and students, as well as providing a valuable new space for AV presentations, cultural and educational events and open meetings.

Built between two existing main buildings and bounded by a lunch area and library, the new atrium measures 25 by 35m and has a ceiling height of 11m. "With such a ceiling height and with the reflective surfaces of the atrium it was clear the best solution would be a high quality line source column system," said system designer Bj°rn Fjeld of Norsk Lydteknikk AS.

Supported by EASE analysis, Fjeld designed a system using Community Entasys high performance loudspeakers. He explained, "To provide

The CAL system is a keystone element in a complete AV retrofit of the 300-seat facility designed and installed by the Los Angeles office of AVI-SPL.

"I was immediately impressed with the sound quality of CAL," says Arlen Sanders, project manager for LA Metro. "No matter where you are sitting in the audience, the sound is always present, at just the right level. It goes beyond just excellent intelligibility-you get the feeling the person is right there in front of you, even when speaking from across the room."

The prior system was prone to comb-filtering effects that impaired intelligibility and generated feedback when the system was pushed
