USA - As part of the Kansas Star Casino, and located just south of Wichita, the Kansas Star Arena is a multipurpose auditorium that hosts conventions, concerts, rodeos, MMA fights and other events.

The 3,400-seat arena, which opened in 2013, had a basic audio system for announcements. However, the arena quickly outgrew the system's capabilities and often rented equipment to supplement its sound level and music quality for rodeos and other events with high levels of crowd excitement.

In 2014, Kansas Star turned to McClelland Sound of Wichita, KS to upgrade the arena's audio system. McClelland's Paul Colella designed a distributed loudspeaker system with eight clusters of Community Solutions Series SLS960 main loudspeakers and ILF218 subwoofers. The system covers the arena seating and floor and allows selected loudspeakers to be muted for smaller events that use half of the aren

UK - The Jockey Club's £45m redevelopment of its flagship Racecourse at Cheltenham is fully underway with many of the areas complete outside of the main grandstand. The redevelopment will increase capacity and provide modern facilities and includes the demolition of the current royal box, which was built in 1952, and 55 other boxes built in the 1920s and 1930s.

Part of the re-development programme included within GBE's scope of works is the installation of the new PA/VA system, disabled refuge and WC alarms throughout the grandstand and new royal and private boxes.

Denmark - Following a major renovation, Danish boarding school, Vejle Idraetsefterskole, wanted to improve the classroom experience by engaging students in high-quality video learning. The dnp Supernova STS short throw front projection screen helped them achieve their aim in a cost-effective way, while eliminating some of the problems of the past caused by high natural daylight.

The high school itself focuses on sports talent development, and in an effort to improve the classroom element of their learning programme, it constructed a new wing with many large 'picture' windows to help students enjoy natural light throughout the day.

Namibia - After a wait of 30 years, Mad Max fans are revelling in the release of Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth in this successful action adventure film series starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult, and directed, produced and co-written by George Miller.

Award-winning production sound mixer Ben Osmo chose DPA's d:screet 4063 miniature microphones with low sensitivity and low voltage to record dialogue during the shooting of action scenes that involved fast, furious and bumpy chases across the Namibian desert. Off The Beach - Brian Wilson has cancelled his UK tour in September to focus on promoting a new movie about his life which has become an "overwhelming success". The former Beach Boy was due to play a series of shows in support of his current album No Pier Pressure. But due to the success of biopic Love And Mercy, starring Paul Dano and John Cusack, Wilson is postponing the tour to support the movie. He also announced next year will be his last ever tour in Europe: "I'm sorry I won't be able to make these shows this year, but I look forward to seeing all my fans in 2016 to help me celebrate 50 years of Pet Sounds. Europe - Meyer Sound has received three more orders for its new Leopard line array loudspeaker system from Megasound Sonorisation in Switzerland, Aukes Theatertechniek in the Netherlands, and DMS PRO in Poland. The three European rental houses are the latest to join a growing list of companies to invest in the patent-pending Leopard and its accompanying 900-LFC low-frequency control element since the system's debut in March.

UK - Pure Groove Systems are powering the sound for the Big Top at Mutiny Festival in Chichester on 18 and 19 July, providing sound for artists including, Gorgon City, Marc Kinchen, Amine Edge & Dance, Idris Elba, Hannah Wants, Disciples, Just Blaze and much more.

In 2014, Pure Groove and Danley Sound Labs joined forces to create sound systems targeted at festival and nightlife industries. Lebanon - Funktion-One's distributor in Lebanon, Audiotec Group, has installed sound systems at two new rooftop venues in Beirut. Caprice and Iris, which are both owned and operated by Addmind, are restaurant-bars that like to take things up a notch or two in the evenings.

Audiotec Group's managing partner, Ralph Choueiri, explains how the company got involved in the projects: "When Addmind contacted us to say they wanted to put Funktion-One systems into Caprice and Iris, we were very happy - these are two of the most exciting venues in Beirut. Singapore - About 40,000 people came together on 5 June 2015 in Singapore's National Stadium for a spectacular Opening Ceremony for an extraordinary SEA Games. USA - Matanuska-Susitna College (MSC) has installed Alaska's first Meyer Sound Constellation acoustic system in its new Glenn Massay Theatre, a 523-seat facility purpose-built for Constellation. With the goal of accommodating a broad range of educational activities and arts performances in a single venue, the venue uses the system to provide ideal acoustics for all its events, including orchestral and choral concerts, student assemblies, lectures, fine arts performances, and amplified rock music.

"We're blown away by how great the room sounds," says theatre director Matt Sale. "It's hard to tell what is the room's own acoustical response and what is due to Constellation. If you walk in not knowing Constellation is on, you wouldn't think there was any enhancement. But when you turn it off, it's like when you have to pop your ears when going up in elevation."

UK - Microphone brand JTS Professional is to be represented in the UK and Ireland by FBT Audio UK, following the signing of an exclusive distribution agreement between the two companies, effective as of 1 July t 2015.

"JTS has always manufactured extremely high quality wireless and wired microphone products, hence the brand's ongoing popularity within the UK - one of the world's most discerning markets," commented FBT Audio UK managing director, Mark Parkhouse. UK - The University of Derby's College of Engineering has partnered with Cloudbass Limited to launch a new undergraduate degree in Broadcast Engineering and Live Event Technology.

The University of Derby is the first UK University to partner with Cloudbass Limited.

Based in the East Midlands, outside broadcast specialist Cloudbass Limited provided filming facilities and crew for the 2012 London Olympics. Previous and current clients include the BBC, BBC Sport, Eurosport and Sky Sports.

The BSc (Hons) Broadcast Engineering and Live Event Technology will start in September 2016. The three year course will prepare aspiring engineers for a career in broadcast engineering and live event technology by teaching them broadcast and engineering techniques, and developing their knowledge of sound technology, analogue and digital electronics.

UK - HK Audio is the new sound system of choice for the Baltic centre for contemporary art in Gateshead.

Baltic, which is the biggest gallery of its kind in the world, has no permanent collection, providing instead an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions and events that give an insight into contemporary artistic practice.

Baltic's River Terrace is a function room featuring an outdoor balcony that stretches out along the banks of the River Tyne and, to bring the venue's sound system up to 21st century standards, Newcastle's Rock Warehouse were called in.
