UK - Canford has been appointed sole distribution partner in the UK and Ireland for the multi-award winning Green-GO range of digital intercom over Ethernet products.

Unlike other digital intercom designs, Green-GO does not employ an expensive central matrix. All interconnection routing data, system set-up and user preferences are stored locally within each user station including beltpacks, which eliminates the possibility of a catastrophic central failure.

Green-GO does not require a dedicated Ethernet network. It will operate on any 100Mbit network without interfering with other data protocols coexisting on the system, including Dante. User stations are powered by Power over Ethernet (PoE). If this is not available locally, any good quality PoE switch may be used including Green-Go's own 5-port switch.

Record Sales - One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay helped UK artists account for one in seven of the albums sold globally during 2014, the BPI has said. With 13.7% of worldwide sales, it's the highest British share since the BPI began recording those figures in 2000. Sales of albums by British artists rose in Canada, Australia, Italy and Sweden, as well as the US. Albums from Sam Smith and Pink Floyd also made the top ten list of the world's biggest-sellers of 2014.

According to the BPI's Music Market 2015 report, Taylor Swift topped the list of global recording artists, after shifting six million copies of her album 1989. The figures, which take into account album sales, track sales and streams, put One Direction in second place and Sheeran in third. The BPI also found that streaming had doubled in the UK during 2014.

The Netherlands - More than a decade after much-loved Dutch duo Karel de Rooij and Peter de Jong stopped performing their comedy act Mini en Maxi, public demand for their brand of humour was so great that they agreed to perform as Mini en Maxi again at Koningklijke Schouwburg (Royal Theatre) in Den Haag for a run of shows from April through to June. A Yamaha CL1 digital mixing system has helped to bring the act right up to date.

Established in 1969, de Rooij and de Jong enjoyed huge success with Mini en Maxi, a Silver Rose of Montreux-winning variety act of non-speaking, visual humour. However, music was always a major part of the performances, both men being accomplished musicians, as well as having extra players in the shows for musical accompaniment.

The area around Fondi is known as 'little Florence', due to the history and quality of art that characterises it. Owned by Gianfranco 'Jef' Annunziata, the recently-opened Metamorfosi is intended to act as a hub of cultural originality; a meeting place for people who want to continue the region's traditions of innovative art and design through participation, education, training, seminars and exhibitions.

UK / USA - British singer-songwriter Ben Howard is enjoying success on both sides of the Atlantic, having completed a sold out UK tour in December, a successful run in the US, returning to the UK in April, where he filled arenas round the country, including three nights at London's Alexandra Palace, Glasgow's SSE Hydro, Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena and Birmingham's NIA. His fans are no doubt delighted with the quality of audio that rental company Nitelites is delivering, which in no small part due to their choice of DiGiCo SD7s for both Front of House and monitor positions.

Nitelites director Andy Magee, who has been working with Ben since 2012, elected to take up the FOH position, with Barrie Pitt mixing monitors. They use SD7s, he says, simply because they are head and shoulders above anything else.

USA - InfoComm 2015 sees a number of significant new Coda Audio products being introduced to the US market for the first time. Held from 17-19 June at the Orange County Convention Centre in Orlando, Florida, Coda will be highlighting new products recently launched at ProLight+Sound in Europe.

Exhibiting at Booth 985 in InfoComm's Audio Pavilion, key new products for Coda are the AiRAY high output, full-range line array system, HOPS8 two-way point source loudspeakers and further innovations in the company's LINUS range of amplifiers and LiNET Digital Audio Transport and Distribution (DATAD) products.

UK - Allen & Heath has launched dLive, billed as "a next generation digital mixing system, providing ultra-flexible architecture, a powerful FPGA processing core, a comprehensive array of expansion, control and networking options, plus the intuitive Harmony user interface with gesture control, meaning dLive is geared to applications from rigorous touring and festivals to installation in prestigious live venues".

The dLive processing brain is housed in the MixRack, available in three sizes - the DM32, DM48 and DM64, and there are three accompanying control surfaces. All MixRacks and Surfaces are mix 'n match compatible, with common configuration, setup and show files. Vienna - While equally unsuccessful on the stage at the recent Eurovision Song Contest, Austria and Germany achieved full marks behind the scenes. Austrian host broadcaster ORF marked the 60th anniversary of the world's oldest and most successful televised song contest not only as a perfect host, providing a spectacular TV and stage show, but also with a technically innovative production concept.

All of the contest's audio signals were routed via a Ravenna/AES67-based IP infrastructure for the first time at a Eurovision event. Both the Lawo Nova 73 audio matrix - including all connected Dallis I/O systems used by ORF's broadcast supplier, VideoHouse - and the video and audio distribution of the Lawo commentary solution were based on IP networking technology.

USA - To be independent means different things to different people, but for the eponymous live music venue in the San Francisco Bay Area the name is unambiguous. Ten years presenting a cross section of local, national and international acts underlines The Independent's commitment to the broad church of contemporary music. "Fundamentally, music is about intimacy with the artist," said the venue's head of audio and production, Terry Yerves. "And for that to happen it's got to sound good."

This is Yerves' sixth year at the venue. "I started with The Independent in 2009, but I still do the occasional short tour from time to time if the dates allow. In 2014, we staged almost 300 shows so my touring work is very occasional. This is a five hundred capacity auditorium, a square box with an arched ceiling and concrete floor; the back wall has a VIP balcony above.

France - Matthias Larrieu, a leading member of the Nexo design team has died in a road accident. He was just 30 years old.

The Nexo family is mourning the loss of one of its sons, the talented young loudspeaker designer Matthias Larrieu, who lost his life in a car accident in June, writes Ginny Goudy. In his six years at Nexo, Matthias left a truly impressive mark. A core member of the design team that brought the company's flagship STM Series modular line array into existence, he was also instrumental in the development of other ground-breaking Nexo products, notably the 45°N-12 inline stage monitor and the hugely popular RS subbass cabinets.

His last project for Nexo was the STM M28 compact line array, which, in its first year on the market, is already set to become one of the company's best-selling PA systems.

Spain - Lorenzo Cortés is one of Spain's highest profile composers and producers, with a career of over 20 years of music production for television, radio and the internet. For his newly-upgraded studio, he wanted a production system that would allow him to focus exclusively on the creative process. Yamaha Nuage was the answer.

Lorenzo's career has included composing theme music, library music, jingles and soundtracks for a wide range of clients in over 20 countries. His Zaragoza studio sees him working on projects from composition through to entire productions of audio-visual projects.

USA - Critics have lavishly praised Lana Del Rey's three-plus-octave vocal range and emotive delivery, but within the context of a band on a big stage, the task of ensuring that every sultry whisper is heard can present its share of challenges. Escondido, California-based touring sound provider Sound Image tapped the right tool for the trek: L-Acoustics' K1.

Currently out on her North American Endless Summer tour, along with opener Courtney Love, Del Rey is wowing fans in sheds each night on a K1 main loudspeaker system, with K2 out-fill arrays flown as needed in wider venues.

Czech Republic - Sixteen teams, 64 games, 17 days, and a record-breaking crowd of nearly 750,000 - high-flying Nexo Geo S12-ST loudspeakers in Prague's O2 Arena provided a quality audio experience for the Ice Hockey World Championship, won by Canada.

The event was another great success for the O2 Arena and its newly-installed Nexo PA/VA systems, following the finals of the Federation Cup in 2014, and this year's European Athletics Indoor Championships.

Flown from the central 'cube' above the ice rink, the Geo S12-ST system, supplied and installed by MusicData, uses a total of 84 x line-array cabinets, with 24 x RS18 subs. Chosen for their long-throw capability, the compact two-way ST cabinets have been developed from the standard Geo S12 design offering the high SPL and enhanced speech intelligibility required for stadium and arena applications.

UK - RSH Audio recently supplied equipment for two high-profile events held within a few days of each other in London. The XL Recordings & Young Turks present event on Monday 18 May and the Arsenal FC Foundation's Night to Inspire on Thursday 21 May both demanded high quality sound, which was delivered by RSH Audio, using Funktion-One loudspeakers.

The company's director, Joe Haycocks, is launching an offshoot called Event Technics, to cover the projects for which he is production manager, as well as supplier. South Korea - The Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre(BEXCO) has dramatically extended the versatility of its exhibition space with the installation of two steerable Meyer Sound CAL 32 column array loudspeakers. Formerly suited only for hosting floor exhibits, the room can now accommodate a variety of meetings, lectures, presentations, and performances that demand controlled coverage and highly intelligible audio reinforcement for both speech and music. CAL will be demonstrated live at InfoComm 2015 in the Meyer Sound demo room 203A.

Spain - The ability of Roland video products to adapt in a multi format live environment was recently put to the test at the L.E.V Festival in Gijón, Spain. This multi venue festival (L.E.V. stands for Laboratorio de Electrónica Visual or, in English, Laboratory of Visual Electronics) forms a part of the International Festival of Audiovisual Creation, now in its ninth year. The festival is internationally renowned for pushing audiovisual boundaries based on four themes: the natural synergy between image and sound, the live presentation, the relationship established between audience, artist connection and public space, and the new artistic trends.

Sweden - The new Lake Controller v6.4 software program introduces a number of significant features to enable faster and more accurate optimisation of complex, large-scale sound reinforcement systems, the company says.

Specifically, according to Lab.gruppen product manager Martin Andersson, v6.4 adds a new dimension to preset and EQ handling with the introduction of Recallable EQ Overlays.

"With this new feature, users can store and recall individual EQ overlays to modules and groups in Lake Controller," Andersson explains. "Now any given speaker preset can consist of a single base preset which then can be augmented EQ overlay additions. This allows fast modification of a preset to compensate for the number of boxes in an array or for variations in system throw distance for instance. France - A total of 13 Roland M-48 Personal Mixers have been specified by renowned sound designer Thomas Strebel for use in the acclaimed production of The Fearless Vampire Killers at the Mogador Theatre in Paris. This new production of the musical comedy by Oscar winning director Roman Polanski is an adaptation of his 1967 movie of the same name. The musical has been produced in a number of European cities since it debuted in 1997, but this version marks the first time it has been staged in Paris, where the 81-year-old Polanski resides.

Supplied to the theatre by sound, lighting and video specialists DuShow, the Roland M-48 Personal Mixers are used by the orchestra in the pit and enable each musician to control exactly what they want to listen to during their performances.
